It seems like the creators of this movie purposefully made Marcia so beautiful and Jan so ugly. There a specific reason?

wouldn't have worked if they were both pretty or ugly, there had to be a contrast

....But in the original TV series, Jan WAS just as beautiful as Marcia...

It just took a few seasons for her to catch up.

(Check them out in their respective bikinis in the Hawaii episodes....)
