Does Twister appeal to people who live on the East and West Coasts?

With Twisters coming out in a month I've always been curious did Twister ever appeal to people on East and West Coasts of the US? Being from Kansas I think we are a part of the audience that has made it endure for so long and just wonder if the movie has its fans outside of the Midwest.

As long as it's a good disaster flick, it doesn't matter if a viewer is potentially affected by the specific disaster.

I've never experienced an earthquake and have enjoyed movies centered around them. I ask this question as it seems most criticism of Twister came from people outside of the Midwest.

I don't doubt that east coasters might be interested. Tornadoes have been known to show up in those states, just not as often as the central US. I'm not certain about the west coast. Some people might be interested in the "disaster flick" genre, but it's hard to say who it would appeal to. I hate to say this, but Californians, Oregonians, and Washtingtonites who move to tornado-prone states can be really stupid about their own safety, indicating that they don't pay attention to tornadoes much, which leads me to thinking the majority wouldn't be very interested in this movie. Not compared to people in the Central US, who can totally identify with the people in the film.

I'll see videos on social media of people outside filming tornadoes and it drives me nuts.

reply

Unless they're storm-chasers who know what they're doing, yes, they are nuts.

I'm from the UK, where we typically do not get to see many tornadoes, certainly nothing like in the midwest states of the USA, yet I'm still fascinated by tornadoes and is what I think led me to seeing Twister twice at the cinema at the time. One of only 2 movies I've done that with. That being said, I don't really rate the film that highly as I've grown up, it was more the excitement of having a big budget film about tornadoes come out, as a kid.

So yeah you don't have to be geographically connected to the area to be appealed by it and this applies to pretty much any film. People who have never been in space will be appealed by space films etc.

I know plenty of peopel on the East Coast who enjoyed this movie. As long as the story is good, fans will go for it.

Its lucky the posieden adventure got off the ground what with it only being of interest to people on cruise ships
