This movie is the closest Steven Spielberg and Joss Whedon has ever been

Its produced by Spielberg (altough i dont remember if there is his name as producer or just the Amblin name) and Whedon made some script doctoring to the movie script. I dont think there are other works where the two were close. Its pretty natural considering that they have a very different style and views of the world. But i made this connection just because i'm fan of them both.

Interesting. IMDb had Spielberg as Executive Producer and in the trivia is "Both Joss Whedon and Steven Zaillian were brought in as script doctors at a fee of $100,000 a week." - which ain't bad money."
