Big movie when it came out
This was a big deal when it came out. We were pumped to see the SFX and the story was great for us kids.
Now it's pretty silly. But, Bill Paxton still delivers a fun performance.
Yep I was young when it came out and it blew me away but watching now - though still entertaining in a ID4 way, it is silly. It's got tornadoes though, Wizard of Oz references and Helen Hunt which are good.
shareI think Twister and ID4 are both legitimately good movies and very entertaining. I've watched both several times and really enjoy them.
Twister is probably the best disaster movie of all time. It's a well-directed film with a great cast that brings their A-game. I actually got reconnected to the movie a few years ago after not seeing it for several years and was surprised by how well it held up. Now I own it on Blu-Ray.
I AGREE...TWISTER,ID4,ARMAGEDDON,AND CON AIR ARE THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE 90'S APOCALYPSE....AND I LOVE THEM ALL🙂

I love all three of those movies, and proudly own them all! Awesome action flicks, each one of them!
I still very fondly remember going see The Rock and Face/Off in the theater back in the day. Those were definitely some excellent action flicks and I can credit them with turning me onto Nic Cage and making me a fan.
I'll also point out that Face/Off is easily John Woo's best American film. His Hollywood career was overall pretty disappointing, but at least he gave us Face/Off.

... right behind the original Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno, Armageddon, Dante's Peak, The Impossible.
I haven't seen all of those, but you'd really rather rewatch Armageddon or Dante's Peak instead of Twister?
shareJust re-watched Dante's Peak on Netflix. Twenty years later the special effects are still solid. Bill Paxton has more charisma than Pearce Brosnan, but Linda Hamilton is cuter than Helen Hunt imo.
And I will defend Armageddon to the death... the science is crap, the logic is frankly stupid but I just love that big dumb bombastic movie. The heavyweight cast and the over-the-top machismo and heroics put it in my top three. (Deep Impact was pretty good too though.)
I'll agree on the effects in Dante's Peak. There's some genuinely excellent practical FX work in that film.
And I like the film overall as well. In fact, it may even be my #2 disaster movie. But it's no Twister, in my opinion.
Also, Hunt > Hamilton, even though I liked Hamilton in that film.
As for Armageddon, I actually like a lot of Michael Bay's films, but Armageddon just isn't one of them. I've TRIED to like it, but just can't do it. It's way too long and I always lose interest about halfway through.
I do like Deep Impact well-enough, but I think of it as a different kind of disaster movie since the actual disaster stuff doesn't start popping off until the last 15 minutes of the movie.
Armageddon is so bad it's not even funny.
shareI tried to rewatch it recently and didn't even make it to the end. It's weird because it seems like the kind of movie I'd be into--a big, spectacle disaster movie with lots of great actors is my kind of shit--but I just don't like it very much.
shareIts a movie for men. Its so funny and the friendship works so perfectly. And all the stuff in space. And Bruce Willis saving all of us! Its the perfect Armageddon movie :) .
