What is your favorite scene?

Mine is when Lenny/Steve Zahn kisses the cardboard-lady.
I can still see him, when I close my eyes :-)

The scene where Faye is posting some mail and she hears their song on the radio and starts screaming and running. Then she runs into T. Bass Player and they go to Guy's.

reply

I'm pretty sure that's the same scene, isn't it? Lenny kisses the cardboard cutout toward the end of it.

And yeah: that's a great scene for a lot of reasons: it's set up well, the pacing is great, and it has lots of odd little details (like TB wiping his feet when he comes into the store).

reply

I just meant that I like that early part of that scene. Before Lenny macks on the display model is all.

And yes you are pretty sure.

T.B. Player is my favourite character. I usually tune off after he starts doing those push/press ups in the hotels restaurant for those three guys. (Or I did most recently)

This is a bit off topic but it concerns TB: When they are in the dressing room [before the Koss the Boss debacle] and Mr White gives them advice, he says to TB 'Simplify!' or something that sounds like it. Why does he say that, what does it mean? TB comes across as a rather simple person [in a sympathetic way], so was Mr White suggesting TB should disappear into simplicity?

reply

T.B. Player just told everyone he was joining the Marines and what Mr. White said was "Semper Fi".

reply

Thanks Coolman! I wouldn't have guessed that.

reply

I didn't get it back in the day myself.

reply

That's my favorite scene, too. The whole thing from hearing the song to kissing the cutout. It's so joyous.

Yes, I'm an American. And, prouder than ever after participating in the Doctor Who board on IMDB.

Pretty much any scene Lenny is in...plus I've always thought Hanks is at his funniest when he's yelling. (not sure why) his reaction to Jimmy's "what if they want an encore?" cracks me up

I liked the same exact scene that Cyprus mentioned. I loved seeing the expression on Faye's (Liv Tyler) face as she almost swallowed the stamp when she heard TTYD on the radio. I liked the whole scene because it signified the moment of the band becoming a success with their first single.

Other than that I loved many of the one-liners throughout the whole film. "Hey isn't that our fan?" or Sully, as he is eating his deli sandwich, saying "What the bloody hell is this??? Like I got time on my hands. Anyone want to get Fabian out of here". "Young Squires,Young Squires" Obba Babatundé as Lamar had a great little part in this film.

reply

That is my favorite one as well. It was filmed near here, in Old Towne Orange CA.

reply

Also, I just noticed how long it had to run to accommodate the entire scene and the time it took to get every band member and friend to the store, and celebrate at length in the store.

reply

The line "Are you kidding? A guy in a really nice camper wants to put our song on the radio...gimme a pen Im signing your signing were all signing."

reply

There he goes, off to write that hit song 'Alone In My Principles'.

reply

When they are performing "Come on and dance with me tonight". Great song... well actually all the sings are great!

reply

Oh, I also like when Guy says to Del Paxton "You are my biggest fan". Funny

reply

I sometimes find myself remembering the ending, with Guy's "When was the last time you were decently kissed" line, and Lamarr's reactions during the scene.

It's a line that just feels like a young man throwing off trying to be cool, and just being himself. Almost like something from a Cameron Crowe film. Also love the Howard Shore music playing under the scene. Still wish they'd release it.

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."
