The scene with Mike leaving msgs on Nicky's answering machine is as painful to watch today as it was in 1996....how embarrassingly painful

I will start out by saying that I have seen this movie so many times, and it has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. I have always wondered why the girls answering machine started after just 1 ring, and why it would cut him off after a very short time. This is a joke, right? Answering machines do not have that short of a time limit (if any limit at all), and the answering machine would never start after just 1 ring. It was really horrible the way she treated him though. She did not have to be so mean and nasty. She was nothing like the 2 girls from the beginning of the movie (they were super sweet). He really should have tried to start something with the girl he was talking to in that little trailer.

Maybe you're too young to have owned a answering machine-but,I had one that had a ring count setting that went from 1-5 rings and also a msg length setting from 20 sec. To 1min length or you could switch them both off..so,it's plausible thae scene could occur...
