where the f was this set?

i watched the first half hour or so over my brothers shoulder and i could not figure it out. melbourne? a very aussi populated american town? no idea.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd clarify something.

Yes, there is a city in Australia called Melbourne, but there is also a city called Melbourne in Florida. This is what caused the confusion.

The movie was filmed in Melbourne Australia and I saw some of the filming as it was near my place of work (cnr Lonsdale and Elizabeth Sts, Melbourne). My friend had the honor of getting his foot trodden on by Aussie actor Richard Norton.

Don't know if this is set in American but it was filmed in Melbourne. I saw a few scenes being filmed in the city on my lunch break at the time, saw Jackie filming the scene when he's riding the horse carriage and one where he was suspended from ropes with a girl, like he was falling through the air and catching her or something. At least I think that was this movie.

PS. The idiot:Australian ratio is probably about the same as for Americans, so stop arguing you two.

Well it says at the beginning of the film it's in Melborne. So there's your answer.

I think the reason why the question is being asked is because throughout the movie there is a mix of characters who have American accents, or Australian accents so it's difficult to pinpoint the location of the film (even though stated.)

If you ever follow Jackie Chan and his movies, you'll know this is Australia. Only an idiot would think this was filmed in the US. But what I will say is most will have seen New Line's US cut of this film and the dubbing won't help. But I saw this when I was 16 and still knew it was Melbourne, Australia.

I actually out of (chance) got to see an alternative cut of the movie which had none of that dubbing and wasn't cut for violence and we even saw the reporter woman (Diana) at the hospital at the end (she just disappears at the end of the US version)

I travel to a little Island that is now an Australian territory and when I see places like Commonwealth Bank and Westpac, I totally could tell the movie was shot in Australia. Plus the dial tone that's heard after dialing a number on your phone. When I was a kid, I only watched bits of where Jackie and his girlfriend were speaking Mandarin/Cantonese so that I'd read the subtitled translations. And I thought it was located in the United States until I got the chance to see the whole thing. I look into Jackie (Chan)'s eyes and I can see the boyish charms.
