best performances in this movie

The whole cast is excellent to be fair and is the films main strength from young actors to adult actors.

Brad Pitt is fantastic in this probably one of his most underrated roles. I think the film has one of De Niro's and Hoffman's better later day performances. I think along with Narc and Your Friends and Neighbours, this is probably one of Jason Patric's best performances. I'd say it's one of Kevin Bacon's best ones. Minnie Driver, Vittiro Gassman and Bruno Kirby really give very good performances in smaller roles. Even Billy Crudup is really good in a smaller role.

I've seen a thread higher up on here that says Pitt and Patric were awful in this but I don't know what film those people were watching cause I thought both were excellent.

A really underrated film, it's 7.6 on IMDB is about right (I'd probably go 7.9 to 8.0 myself).

Ron Eldard and Billy Crudup are electric for one scene then sidelined, Pitt is rather forgettable, Hoffman is underused and Patric seems to be almost phoning it in.
