And Shake's apathy to it. That was hard to watch.

shareare you trolling? you cant be serious ..in a movie with child rape, organized crime and revenge murder ,you found domestic violence to be the MOST disturbing part??

I don't think there's any reason to jump on the OP like that. Obviously anyone would feel the child rape, torture and murder shown in the movie was the worst thing to happen in that neighbourhood, but to think that domestic violence was such an everday occurrance in Shakes family that nothing was said or done about it, or shock shown over it, really is disturbing. Most disturbing is to know that that portrayal of family life was probably the most realistic of all, and that the kids in that area just saw it as another normal part of family life.
sharebut that's NOT what the OP said

I would suggest they probably meant because there was retribution for everything else, whereas the abusive relationship was just left as is and supported.
shareI found that the most disturbing part was the child molestation, but to each his own I guess.

Grow up already. Giving your wife a smack or two is not that big of deal.
Homes ran so much smoother when there was the thought that a smack could come at any minute.
Dr. Who is to entertainment what Special Olympics is to athleticism.
Unless you grew up in that household and the smacks were just as liable to come your way.
shareEither you're trying to be funny - and failing miserably, or you're an idiot.
Don't worry, you don't need to tell me which, a little mystery never hurt anyone. And either way you're a bit of a tool.
It wasn't THE most disturbing but it certainly upset the viewer.
What startles the viewer also was people's attitudes back then (and today for some, I suppose) when the narrator says "The Pope kept a lot of people married."
One wonders why any human would let another human (the Pope) control their lives & decisions.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.
You do realise that's pretty much how the world works, right? Without people controlling each other society would be a completely different place. You've currently got a LOT of people controlling your life right now, and apparently you are unaware of it...
shareWell, what I DO know is no Pope would ever tell me to stay in a marriage if I did not want to.
And if you're referring to government controlling people, then perhaps in a lot of ways yes they do control us.
But a Pope is not a lawmaker. He's just an everyday human.....like the rest of us.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.

No I'm not talking about government at all. You need to be more observant of the world you live in.
