Kevin Bacon's Performance.

We all hated the character of Sean Nokes. But I don't think anyone could've pulled the role off any better than Kevin Bacon. His performance was phenomenal. Sean Nokes is the best role he's had.

reply

Agreed. As perverse as it may sound, Bacon was BORN to play Sean Nokes.

Where the hell was his best supporting actor Oscar?

P.S. I thought Terry Kinney was also really good as the other guard.

reply

Exactly. Alot of fans don't seem to appreciate great acting anymore. Bacon stole the show. Terry Kinney had a good part also.

reply

I thought every actor in this movie gave a tremendous performance.

reply

Because of how good Kevin Bacon was in this movie, I can not stand him in real life. I can not seperate the real person from the character, but I guess thats the whole point of great acting.

Kevin Bacon was great, but it's not that difficult a role. In the history of movies there have been plenty of great sadistic guards. Ted Levine might make a pretty good one, because of his torturing voice. No, I think the real excellence was due to Ron Eluard and Billy Crudup's facial acting the night of the Nokes murder. Those two guys stole the show with that one. Kevin didn't have to do much, but take his punishment.

Kevin Bacon is a great actor, very versatile !.

sardonic guards are better.

Maybe if you watch him in 'Taking Chance' you would change your mind.

Another great performance - not overplayed at all.

Always thought the two most memorable evil characters performances that struck a chord with me were Ralph Fienes in "Schindler's List" and Tim Roth in "Rob Roy"; not sure how I forgotten Bacon's performance in this one...especially when he makes the kids eat off the floor.

reply

I think if your suspose to play a charactor that every is suspose to hate, and you do. then your did a great job

Ill catch you on the flip side.

I agree he was amazing in this...definitely his best performance....but one thing bugged me: his accent changes severely several times. He goes from New Yorker to Surfer Dude to redneck (later years).

Almost a year later...
Kevin Bacon seems to be good at playing the role of the bad/sadistic guy.
Sleepers, The River Wild, Hollow Man, White Water Summer.

Also not too bad at playing the good guy. As fluffy as they are, I also liked him in The Air Up There and, of course, Footloose.

Today, as I watched the movie, I thought "Boy, no one really gives Kevin Bacon the credit he deserves." I was lost in his performance.

His and the others in the movie - I love when I can get lost in a story, the bonus is when an actor can draw me in. To have the entire cast pull me into the movie was fantastic.

I'm just shy that way

finally, i find a thread that praises bacon and not slam him. kevin is one of the best actors in the world. his style and deversity are incredible. however, i feel that while this was one of his best preformances; his absolute best without a doubt, was in fact Murder in the First with Gary Oldman and Christian Slater, but yet again....he got nothing for it.

reply

I came to this thread to point out KB's brilliant performance in Murder in the First, a good but not great movie. Since you have beaten me to it I will just add my agreement with your opinions of that role and of his talents in general.
He is consistently good, or better, and can make an otherwise mediocre movie, such as this one, watchable. He has quite a few roles in good to excellent movies as well. Mystic River and Tremors come to mind. But you already mentioned diversity didn't you?

reply

yea i did, and i'll do it again. kevin's done horror, action, childeren's drama, even comendy. all of it.

to go from 'he said, she said' and 'she's having a baby' to 'flatliners' and 'tremors' to 'River Wild and 'Murder in the first' not to mention 'White water summer' 'lemon sky' and 'the air up there'. he's one of the most diverse actors in the world. and you said it best. kevin can be in a mediocre film and turn it into a good or even great film just by his preformance.

reply

I think Kevin Bacon plays such a good bad guy. He has done it in a few movies. It's like how great Anthony Hopkins does as the bad guy.

This was not the only film where Kevin Bacon played a pedophile.

reply

I'm forever creeped out when I look at him just from this movie!

Lisa: Some advice, okay? Just don't point your *beep* finger at crazy people!

reply

I think he was most brilliant as Jack Swigert in "Apollo 13" if you ask me..

reply

He was EXCELLENT in Apollo 13!! He stole the show in X-Men First Class recently but Bacon never gets a lot of praise. He should've gotten something for Death Sentence or Taking Chances and even this film or The Woodsman. He is great in pretty much every role I've seen him in.
