PLEASE tell me your not serious?

You say its right up there with Bloodsport and kickboxer.
Now forgeting about Kickboxer lets talk Bloodsport,
are your aware The Quest was originally a Sequal to Bloodsport? And Van Dam CONNED Frank Dux (Who wrote the ORIGINAL STORY FOR THE QUEST) out of the Story and made the quest instead.

Now the new Story of the QUEST is quite literally a carbon COPY of Bloodsport.
I sat watching it the other week and thought... "Have I accidently put my Bloodsport tape in by mistake"

The similaritys between the 2 films is.. is just LAUGHABLE.

Jean Claude VAN dam has made some BAD films but this really takes the biscuit.
Its bad cus its bad its made worse cus its a copy of BLOODSPORT. Only change is Different set different actors. And they've played with the script with a theasaurus.

IF YOU CAN'T see THE QUEST IS BLOODSPORT IN FANCY DRESS, THEN THERES NO HOPE FOR YOU MY FRIEND.

lmao I love seeing this stuff happening *Grins*

I enjoyed The Quest, some of the choreography, such as Van Damme versus the Chinese animal kung fu guy, and the first fight where the mongolian guy takes part, the grappling bit, not the striking bit, very very impressively fluid, I liked it a lot :-) I think most characters have good charisma also, namely Maxie Devine, I love that guy :)

You just gotta watch this as a movie. It's an alternative, really, to Bloodsport. But they both have a Sumo guy, a Wrestler, Animal Kung Fu guys, Brazilian guys. Except the bad guy in this movie lacks style and grace, whereas Chong Li was fantastic :)

Average movie, but it was very enjoyable. Certainly not Van Damme's best, though, and definitely not on the same level of Kickboxer in my opinion.

Kung fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene...

Who cares if its based off another movie. It was damn entertaining from what I can rememeber (havnt seen it in years). Yes, this is def one of his better movies (which says alot).

I saw this one on tv a while back. I thought it was hilarious.
If Van Damme wants to become a real' director he should first learn 'how' to tell a story and put his ego on the side.
The only thing good I can say about this movie would be about the fights. At least, the ones Van Damme isn't fighting himself.
When 2 other people have to fight eachother there's choreography, there's a rhythm. Each time Van Damme is fighting his fighting is so slow, he even cuts each punch and each kick several times after eachother so that nobody'ld miss a thing.

The way the movie ended was even cheaper, when he goes back to being an old man again: 'I went back to my home, saved the children and everything was allright' THE END (I think that's what he said, still is what it came down to).

You think "You" know about movies?

I honestly have to say this one of V.D's better films and it was very entertaining (Surprised i never heard of it) despite its simularities to bloodsport. The acting from the cast (including Van Damme) was quite decent.

I agree with the OP. The Quest rocks. It is def on eof his best. The action, fighting, music, acting, it is all awesome. Surely underrated by many fans. It is like Bloodsport in the 20's. I really enjoy it. He does one of the sweetest kicks in that movie. And he is ripped like jesus in it,

I'm here to do 2 things. Kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of bubble gum!

Alot of bad editing as far as I see. The tournament fight scenes were fair though. Otherwise, this one is at least as mediocre as his worst. His best are Maximum Risk, Time Cop and one of the later ones. Even the campy and corny Double Team was more enjoyable to watch.

reply

No way in HELL is double team better than the Quest. That is just stupid. Double team is the film that ended his career.

80% of my enjoyment of this film is down to Roger Moore - who I am a HUGE fan of.

Beyond his involvement - it's still fun.

Mr Annnderson.....!

Definitely underrated

Some great fight scenes, the Chinese fighter in particular was great
