This is not a sequel but rather a crappy remake. First of all, Frank Dux had the honor of fighting in place of his masters dead son and we're reminded of his past often. In this one, he was fighting for money for some orphans we never see after the first few minutes and care little for. The bumbling duo sponsoring him in this film aren't even as good as the agents chasing him in Bloodsport, where at least the comic relief was bearable. They ripped off the entire entire of fighters from around the globe for this film from Bloodsport. His american counterpart in Bloodsport had a plot purpose and even added some emotion to the last big fight and in this movie, the american boxer was just hard not to laugh at.
Overall Bloodsport was done much more superbly in what is virtually exactly the same story.
Aristophanes once wrote, roughly translated...
The Quest is cool, Bloodsport is much cooler
shareBloodsport is definitely a lot better. It has better 1 liners like "OKAY USA!", "You lose American *beep* and "You break my record, now I break YOU, like I break your FRIEND"
Bolo Yeung is one of the best Asian bad guys ever. He's so stocky and some of the facials he pulls are scary not to mention his brutal finishers.
The Mongolian boxer has nothing on Chong Li.
The mongolian boxer is also Tong Po's older brother. Well in real life that is.
shareAnd don't forget, "You must be Ducks...Right,Dux, like 'put up your dukes'! "
The pacing and overall story was better in Bloodsport and it had a cute Leah Ayres, an underutilized Forrest Whittaker, and - of course - Ogre (Donald Gibb) from "Revenge of the Nerds".
Both movies have some cheesy fight characters (the African monkey stylist in BS, and the weirdo Spanish matador in TQ) but The Quest has that wicked fight with the Chinese wushu fighter against the Brazilian capoeira fighter.
All in all, The Quest is cut from the same mold of Bloodsport, and Bloodsport was accused of being a plagiarized version of "Enter the Dragon".
Sidenote: Apparently there have been some revelations that Frank Dux's claims and exploits were bogus or embellished. See article at www.bullshido.com
they were in many ways simalar but u just have to expect that. if u like fighting movies like this than all sean claude van damn movies r for u. i happen to like them all including kickboxer, etc. bloodsport ids the best but they all r pretty much the same.
shareBloodsport is one of my old classic fighting favourites, superbly done, with action and acting + story telling. The quest was just lousy remake that went horribly wrong. if only some people will ever learn.

The quest is a virtual remake of bloodsport. It's just set in the 20's and in tibet.
"Karate training is good, but contact fighting like this is the only way to prepare for the street"

Despite been similar films, almost a remake. I prefer "Bloodsport" by far!
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
It's an art doing a remake of a crappy movie based on fairytale written by Frank Dux and called his fairytale life, so I guess "The Quest" wins.
sharepretty sure that there is no Dux in this movie
JCVD's character is Christopher Dubois
