I have not read the books and I get the Roy/Aaron thing. But what I did not get was why did Roy kill Linda? The movie doesn't really go into detail about why he killed her.
I get that he is a psychopath...did he kill her just to kill her. "I just had to kill Linda, Mr. Vail. That *beep* got what she deserved." What am I missing?
I need to read the book.

I believe he killed her because he thought she was sleeping around (in addition to the "movies").

Roy really fancied her but he HAD to stay as Aaron or the game was up
she then took advantage and made fun of him
so once he could be Roy with her he got revenge, but then she obviously had to go as she knew his secret.
you might say it was a warm up for the MAIN event, to kill the pedophile that the legal system had covered up
