Can someone answer this?

Hi guys

i just ended watching this movie and a question arose in my mind. I am watching this film in 2014.

Ok Martin didn't know throughout this process that there is no Aron and that was also unknown to the doctor who claimed it to be multiple personality disorder. I just have one thing to ask, if there is any doctor here or any psychiatrist that can answer it better.

Is there anything or any test,or any symptom type of thing to prove that patient is having multiple personality disorder.

If there is, then it would have become easy for this case to move on i bet. At the end Aron revealed that he had been pretending the whole time, i got it. Yes i understand the whole film but how could the court let him get away just because the it was seen that he has multiple personality disorder. Doesn't it come under the "attempt to murder" or "intent to murder" and get the punishment of that instead.

judge dismissed jury [because legal process had become a farce] and made a Bench Order based on her own perception [which also was wrong of course] that the boy HAD serious mental problems.

in doing that she effectively ALTERS the plea and makes a BLIND plea OF diminished responsibility [and then agrees with herself].

the lawyer gal argues that the hospitalization orders will see him free in a month and judge says "don't shoot the messenger" [ie tell it to the Law Makers].

so as in The Sixth Sense in 1999 the movie is a sad reflection ON the so called "profession" of shrinks and their hocus-pocus theories and drugs.

Many doctors doubt even the existence of multiple personality disorder.
