Please help settle silly debate (SPOILER)

At the end, I think Edward Norton's character knows exactly what he's doing when he apologizes about the prosecuting atty's throat; my husband thinks he made a mistake, that that comment slipped of of him.

Your vote? Thanks!

BTW: First time postinge - - any kind tips on what I might have done wrong are appreciated! FYI, I DID use the spoiler button before and after the text that contained spoiler info, but the preview doesn't show it and I don't want to ruin the movie for others!!!

Also, how did those of you who have cool, made up names get those instead of this random numbers and letters I was apparently assigned? Thanks!

I agree with you. I think the Edward Norton character was too proud of himself to let it go. He actually says something like (I almost let it go, you looked so happy, but I couldn't resist). I loved Norton in this!

I'm not sure about the spoiler alert, but you put it in your title and that's good enough for me.

I also don't know how to pick a user id. Look at mine. It sounds like someone coughing or throwing up! :)

cmfalf, I just have to say you have a true comedic flair. I LOVE your last "Look at mine!" paragraph.

Marty comes to his cell STILL all smug believing it was HIM [covering mike and saying pussy] that CAUSED Aaron to flip to Roy.

the truth was Roy had been planning all this and rehearsing his fake Aaron character for some 10 years [the revelation of the "bad thing" Marty did re the Michael O'Donnell kiddie] although we are left to ponder that Roy too must have been abused by the Primate at same time.

so at end he just HAS to bring the smug Marty down to earth and as he says it will toughen him up and one day he will thank good old Roy.

even so Marty is STILL too thick to fully understand and blurts out "there was no Roy then?"

so Roy just sighs and says no dumbass there was no Aaron

so instead of prancing out front door of court to the media he loves, he slinks out back door, still trying to understand how a kid totally fooled him and in fact USED him to win his own case [with Marty fined $10,000 to boot].

and Marty is back to office to fact "we told you so" from his assistants.

the happy ending is that it is suggested WITHOUT his huge ego the blonde will find him a better partner and they will start humping again.

and I daresay she will join him as part of the courtside team at Vail and Assoc

Norton's character knew exactly what he was doing.

Why would he apologize for what attacking the prosecutor?

He actually said he made a mistake....

he did slip up, and he could have easily said he was told by the doctor that he had grabbed her neck and thats how he knew, but he decided to come clean and enjoy the smugness

the fact he admitted to killing Linda made it worse, its understandable how someone could murder an abuser but she was a victim of abuse like him

I completely agree with you on that one. Or he can easily say "guards told me what i did at the court."

But he wanted to say it in a way.

Your spoiler shows up fine on my phone. As for your user name, you can change it in your profile. You've probably figured it out by now. Welcome to IMDb. Please keep your hands on the safety bar at all times, and you might want to wear protective gear; it can get real nasty on some of these boards! Lol

It was a test for Marty. He let a little slip (because Roy wanted to be recognized for his work) and let Marty fill in the blanks. When Marty only got the general facts right, Roy sighed exasperated and told him the truth.

runice, you're right, and your husband's wrong. As cmfalf says, Roy tells Marty he almost let him "go" but couldn't resist telling him the truth. He had nothing to lose by doing so, after all - attorney-client privilege still held, and man, did he enjoy reveling in "M-m-mr-Vail's" stunned reaction! (And mine, oh boy, and mine.)

The stutter was Norton's idea, I've since learned; and a brilliant one. As was his slow clap . . .

As another poster remarked, however, I felt loss at the same time - as we " lost" Aaron, completely.

I watched the last minutes of this movie with my mouth hanging open in shock.

reply

well Aaron "himself" still had to check in/out of the hospital, as well as any "parole" type checks-up to follow from social workers, shrinks etc, so he had to keep practicing.

lol yes my stomach DROPPED when he said "there was no aaron" and I'm a defense attorney!

reply

Ah, so Marshall, as to Lester's (well-made; ah, for a sequel!) point: I think Roy could easily continue to switch to Aaron/eventually convince the shrinks he was "back" for good, and be released. You?

reply

both judge and blonde attorney KNOW the outcome is certain

"he'll be outa there in a month"

"tell it to the legislature"

and they don't even know he was faking.
