Why hasn't the sequel book been filmed yet?

I read "Show of Evil", which continues the story, and mostly enjoyed it, somewhat unbelievable though it was. I am curious why no one has been interested in re-teaming Norton and Gere for the sequel? Given the original film's popularity, I can't help but think the sequel has a chance to be a hit. And I know most fans would love to see Stampler and Vail go at it again.

Saw the movie today and looked up the author and other related titles. I located two. I wish they would get the main characters back together to continue this. The follow ups seemed interesting and lots of the cast is still alive and active.

i just found out today it was a book and in listening to an interview with edward norton where he said in the original script, the character WAS supposed to be mentally ill instead of playing richard gere's character, i don't think the filmmakers knew it was a book either. i wouldn't hold my breath for a sequel.

Quite clever of them to make a film adaptation of a book they didn't know existed.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.
