OP cracks me up. "Eff that bitchy prosecutor for trying to convict a murderer and not caving in to the arrogant leading man." Also, you're forgetting Roy killed Linda as well. Or maybe you don't like Linda, either.
Lester, I actually think it's unlikely that they got together, she seemed genuinely upset with how Martin used her in that trial. It's obvious she still has feelings for him, but she tells him no in their last scene together.
Every member of the cast was magnificent in this film. It's incredibly written, but superbly acted as well. I've always thought Gere had an understated way of carrying a film, and the all-star cast of supporting characters all do their part to take this film to another level. Norton's breakout performance and the clever twist get all the attention, but it's as solid as they come from start to finish.
Roy/Aaron is one of my favorite movie villains of all time, ruthless and clever. Decent villains are uncommon in Hollywood, and they don't often 'win' the way Roy does in Primal Fear. Great stuff.
It's arguable who used her worse. Her boss set her up to take the fall if things went bad, Martin set her up for a confrontation with a violent psychopath.
Although I personally doubt it, I'm not against the idea that they got together afterward. She does give Marty a kind of half-smile and a nod as he leaves the room; that's a good sign considering she should probably hate him for what he just did.
The Shaughnessy plot is definitely wide open, though I don't know what either Janet or Martin could do about it, as they are no longer prosecutors. Martin's evidence is circumstantial at best, and both would look like they had an ax to grind. Interesting to think about, though.
Martin did not "set up" anything at all as Roy was in total control,
As we are discussing in the other thread, Martin didn't know that. So he absolutely set up Janet for a confrontation with a violent psychopath. He wanted Janet to put Aaron over the edge so the entire courtroom could meet Roy.
And again, they don't show what happens to Shaugnessy so it's left open. The audience is left to assume what they will. But I agree with you, once that information is out there, it's impossible to cover up. Shaugnessy is probably cooked.
yes I think Linda was the one person who had actually seen Roy and was a time bomb waiting to blow up his whole performance.
it's ironic that the prosecution saw the sex tape as damaging to their case but had they followed up on the people involved they may have just caught Roy out.
mhearn Linda being promiscuous doesnt mean she deserved to be murdered. She was also a victim of abuse as well and that was probably teh reason she was promiscuous
doesn't apply to the tapes, but the whole reason Roy did this was Vail's "bad bad thing" he covered up 10 years before with O'Donnell "ghost character", when he [and Roy] were 8 or so, and that IS pedophilia and IS what the lousy Catholic church [and legal fraternity etc] specializes in.
the church has been "outed" as a scapegoat over last 20 years but the worst still operate in "the rich man's sport".
