Was Stacey supposed to...

1. Was Stacey supposed to be whiney (moreso in the beginning of the movie) or was this how Cameron played her/acting came off as whiney? (she whines with her friends at the wrestling match cause they don't take the magazine quiz serious like her, they make fun of her romance book, her mothers love life....and goes on and on about Bobby at a party etc)

I think this was to show that she was young and not very mature and to show that someone who would give her the attention she craved could easily manipulate her....I think this is the way she portrayed the character.

2. Was Bobby right to get mad at Stacey when she was talking to his mom about his relationship with his father (of course I do not mean the abusive anger, but the general anger of her being nosey with a subject he did not want to talk to her about)? When he finally tells Stacey about his father, was he making up a sob story for her to take him back or was he being truthful (not sure if this was expanded on in the original airing).

I think he was being truthful, because of the way the mom seems. I think someone who would want to hide that part of their life (abusive or not) would get angry when and "outsider" would find out.

3. The song in Bobby's room playing when Stacey's mom goes over to question him about Stacey and finds her purse, is that Paul Westerberg (Replacements) or a cover of his song? It sounds so much like a song he used to play????

4. When Stacey is trying on clothes with her friend, the friend sees bruises on her back and Stacey blames it from the beach area and being on her back (sex is insinuated), was this truthful or was she thinking fast on her feet to cover the truth about being beaten in the back by Bobby? I guess that is an answer that can be argued/debated but curious if the original airing went further and the movie has been edited or if its left to speculation.

I think it was quick thinking and truth. She had the bruises from something else, but was able to pass it off as them having sex near the rocks.

5. The real life persons v the characters in the movie: I know the movie altered reality for "based on" status and drama but was the mothers portrayed anything like the real life mothers, was the girls mother as naive as Staceys mother about the abuse her daughter was receiving, was the real life mother of the boy as timid and scared of her son as Bobby's mother?

I can't see any mother being timid from an 18 year old boy, especially back in the early 90's. I think it best is summed up that the mom wanted to be friends, not a mother.

She was whiny wasn't she? Amazingly needy too. An above poster makes an excellent point that she is immature and needy; it is this neediness that makes it easy for Bobby to manipulate her.
I hated how whiny she was at the bowling alley though. You miss a guy that beat you to a pulp?! Pul-eeze! This girl wasn't exactly 'alone' in life either, she had great friends, a loving mom, other cute guys who liked her. She annoyed me.

While I could understand Bobby being annoyed (not violent, just annoyed) with Stacy for nosing into his business, she really didn't 'nose'. She just wanted to meet his mom, while understandable, seemed odd in how badly she wanted to do it. When I met my last boyfriend's mom, I was kind of sorry I did!
Stacy made it seem like she wanted everyone to know she was his 'girl'.

Stacy got them losing her virginity to Bobby at the beach.
I think it was to show how uncaring Bobby was even then, and how submissive Stacy was then. He obviously did not care that he was grinding her into something painful (a rock at the beach, or the metal of the back of his truck) and she likely didn't tell him he was hurting her and to stop or move)

I don't know that actually. What little info there is about this case doesn't mention much about the mothers, with the exception of small section on Bobby's mom trying to break him out of prison(!)

6. Is Eric Balfours character supposed to be a portrayal of several people or just one? Is he supposed to portray the person who in real life helped dispose of the body and was sent to prison for some time? From what I understand of the real story, Bobby told several people he planned to kill her and said "sucks to be you" and had assistance from I believe 1 person who helped him put Stacey in the water, so I guess I am wondering if that character was supposed to be a culmination of those people and the one who put her in the water with him, and that is why he was not shown in the ending court scene. Is that the Vince character? If so, it appears he was an accomplice to Bobby's crime. In the film, he is unsure of what happened. In the article(s), it says he laughed along with Bobby and helped dispose of her body.

7. Did Eric Balfours character represent someone who really did call in an anonymous tip in the real life case? Or was the tip made up strictly for the movie? Not sure

8. Does anyone know what happened to real life person that Nicky was based on and her boyfriend Bobby's friend? Were they made up characters, like a culmination of people or were they portraying actual people? Was Carla a real portrayal or just a drama figure for the movie, if real was she from an abusive home to be so submissive about abuse and tolerable to believe that Stacey asked for it? I don't know that answer, but was curious too. In the same articles, its mentioned by unnamed people that they noticed that they often seemed to be in love, but that he sometimes hit her.

Maybe the Tori Spelling movie you are remembering is Death of A Cheerleader (or something like that). I think it was from around the same time frame (1995-1996.) I think Tori's character's name was Stacy in that movie and she was very bitchy to the "unpopular" girls.
