Was curious, Fred's jumpsuit is numbered 47516....could this be the key that gives us the order in which the film takes place? It made sense to me while I was watching it.

Actually, number 47 is just one of the most reoccuring numbers, which adds to it's mystery, but let me explain my thought process before you dismiss the significance. What two numbers are missing? 2 and 3, right? And what do we NOT see happening in reality? The killing of Renee for one but maybe the killing of her lover as well?
So we start the film at 4(after 1,2,3, i.e. the murders)
Then we see Fred at the police station, jail, in his cell(where the story ends, 7)
Then we have the parallel lines(the only time we see them) when we pick up Pete on the Lost HIghway, so you have 5 and 1 happening at the same time. This is where we meet Renee, learn about Mokes, but also since it's in fred's mind, it takes place AFTER the jail cell, its both.
Then finally, when Fred re-emerges, and you have Fred delivering the message and having the cops on his tail, this is 6, before he gets interoggated.
Make sense?

Ive always felt like this film is a puzzle of sorts, with purposely mis-shaped items put in there to make sure we never really get the "complete" picture but there is enough to form a sequential timeline IMO. Of course, that isn't what the film is about, or where the power lies, but I think it was part of what Lynch talks about when he speaks of "leaving room to dream".
So what do you think the film is about, i.e. a moral or "point" if you will. What do YOU personally take away from the story?
