Just wonderin'.... Because they didn't even look cold and it was feckin -60 degrees!! I mean I'm not sure how long they were in the freezer... A minute? Two? It at least ought to be fysically visible, like their lips turning purple for instance, but Geena didn't even have goosebumps, and she was only wearing a tanktop... You couldn't see their breath moving either. I mean, of course it wasn't actually -60 in there, but they could have at least made it look that way...
I seem to remember that the time quoted for aircrew who bailed out into the North Atlantic during wintertime was four minutes, after which they were no longer capable of self-help.
While I technically agree with you, (and freezers like that make lots of noise when the thermostat is moved that far down) if they made the freezer look real, then we would have to have people who are shot, especially a stomach wound like Samuel L, not get up again and save the day. This movie had a considerable quantity of tongue in cheek activities, not the least of which was Samuel L being pushed out of a moving car and smoking a cigarette until Charly returns. Frankly, I happen to like watching Geena wearing falsies even though I really do know. I think most men do too. BTW, that was a very interesting outfit she was wearing in the water torture scene: she appeared to be wearing a slip and I think she was wearing pants earlier. The bad guys probably figured she looked hot in it too. the bottom line is that suspension of belief makes it more fun, although I hesitate to say what they should have done with the whiny kid for fear of a vist from the ACLU:) Did anyone else try that little trick she did with the shot glass in the hotel room?

There is a HUGE difference between freezing to death in ice-cold water, and freezing to death in a freezer.
They were only in the freezer for a few minutes, and it takes time to cool down. There's not going to be any wind in there either so it could take a good half-hour, if not more like four hours to actualy DIE from the cold, depending on just how cold it gets in there.

Correct. The heat transfer from cold air is much slower than the heat loss from being immersed in cold water. I think from a science oriented show that talked about the subject of how long it takes to die in cold weather, at a preexisting temperature of 10 degrees Fahrenheit (which is what many commercial meat lockers have since they want to make sure large cuts of meat get frozen before they have time to spoil), one would be dead in about 90 minutes - 2 hours, but you'd go insane and take off all your clothes just before you die since the body reacts strangely to cold. When you are close to dying of hypothermia, your body actually feels really HOT so many freezing victims actually become delusional and take off their clothes thinking that they are roasting to death.
They just turned down the temp in the freezer where they locked Charli so it would take several hours for her and her daughter to freeze to death. But the time is affected by many factors, weight, mass, efficiency of the freezer, other heat sources, etc. etc.

hahaha. I was actually just recently watching a show about ALASKA (well two shows if you count ICE road Truckers) and these people routinely seem to step out in temperatures colder than 20 below Zero (Fahrenheit) and seem to be okay. Sure they're all bundled up. But People near the Arctic circle seem to take the cold pretty well. I kinda remember Timothy turning the dial way down, so I don't know what the exact temperature was supposed to be, but it was supposed to be really cold.
You are right. the little girl WAS wearing a winter jacket so she did have some protection, but it was Charli who was wearing a thin T-shirt and who probably would have frozen to death sooner.

Yes, and since we're remembering Titanic, If you fall and get immersed in the waters of the North Atlantic, you have about fifteen minutes before you're dead, (I've heard about 4 1/2 minutes before you start losing your ability to think or move correctly). Since you're immersed in water and there is no air near your skin to insulate you from the cold, you lose your core body heat almost immediately.

"Hmmmm, 10 degrees Fahrenheit. That's about -12 degrees Celsius. In that temperature, I'm sure it would take a lot longer than 2 hours to die if you are wearing pants and a shirt and you keep moving yourself."
-12 Celsius wouldn't kill anyone anytime soon. Certainly not a trained assassin. If they went down to -25 - -30, then maybe something would happen, but it would still take time, even if she was stark naked.
The transfer rate of body heat to the surrounding medium, i.e. air or water, is the crucial factor. Here the heat conduction to cold water is far more dangerous and quick than to air and "can lead to death in as little as 15 minutes" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothermia#Prevention).
The chances, being in contact only with air, should be much better.
