Any other movies like this?

I like this movie. The story seemed a little cliche'd at times, but the action scenes were fun to watch. It's hard to find movies nowadays where a guy can walk into a room and blow everyone to bits with two handguns (recent ones that comes to mind are The Matrix and Equilibrium). But still, an entertaining movie. Anyone know of any others like this besides some obvious ones (Rambo and such).

This movie has striking similarities to the film Yojimbo.

Try A Fist Full of Dollars as this film is basically a remake of it.

Basically you want to look for any movie by Walter Hill. He is a protege and contemporary of Sam Peckinpah. Peckinpah pioneered this ground in "The Wild Bunch" and "The Getaway", but Hill has perfected it.

"The Driver" 1977?

"Streets of Fire" 1985

"Geronimo"

"Wild Bill"

To me, Hill is a much better director than Tarantino. Tarantino's characters engage in way too much superflous dialogue. Hill's characters just get to killin'.

Bah. I really dont like what I've seen from Walter Hill. That being said, I've only seen 'The Long Riders and this, but the Long Riders was a load of pro-Southern baloney that dragged on too long before getting to any real action. And even when it does, like you said, it is very similar to Sam Peckinpah. Unfortunately, the shoot-up in the town doesnt look inspired by Peckinpah, it looks more like it was just ripped off from him. Theres a fine line between inspiration and plagarism, and I think Hill has crossed it too many times in these movies. With Last Man Standing, although I liked Bruce Willis, the movie was just ripped-off from Sergio Leone. (Never mind that Leone ripped it off from somewhere else)

Now I'm ready to be dragged through the mud by you Walter Hill fans. If his other films are original, and dont try to be more than what they are(action flicks) maybe Ill take another look, but he hasnt impressed me so far.

If you like this definitely see A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly. As far as recent films check out The way of the Gun. Don't rent it just go to Walmart and check the bargain bin you can buy it for five bucks and it is very similar in the manner of gun play and the moral ambiguity of the protagonists.

"Yojimbo"
"Fistful of Dollars"

"Yojimbo" is actually based on American westerns and, oddly enough, Italian director Sergio Leone based his western, "Fistfull of Dollars", on "Yojimbo". And "Last Man Standing" is actually based on those two films. Look at the writing credits to see what I mean.

I think you'll find that "Yojimbo" and "Fistful of Dollars" are a lot better than "Last Man Standing"... Personally, I prefer "Fistful", but I love them both.
