From trivia-

James Remar was Walter Hill's original choice for the role of Hickey, but the studio chose Christopher Walken for the part.

Well? Tough choice.

I think either would have been good in the role, but I love Walken with that hairstyle and ironically fiendish grin.

Im glad he went with Walken since he can be alot more scary on the screen than Remar. Remar is like a "cosy grandpa" type ffs...he wouldnt do this role as "the big scary" Mickey any justice at all.

The year before Remar played one of the gang leaders in the opening scene in Judge Dredd so...I dunno about that.
