Who would play the roles if this movie were made in 2021 instead of 1996? Also the “impossible to find” toy would probably be a PS5 instead of Turbo Man.

But this film wouldn't work In today's current time period as toys can easily be ordered on Amazon when they're sold out at stores. Plus that "Put that cookie down" line wouldn't happen as Howard would likely call Liz on his iPhone so Ted couldnt interfere.
The setting would have to be during the mid 00s or earlier and instead of a PS5, it would have to be the original play station 1 or at least the 2.
Some people still have land lines - we do.
We're out in the burbs where cell is not reliable or not existent - if our cable modem goes out we lose cell service as well. We still have a land line but will probably drop it anyway when the local fiber optic internet company gets around to doing streets with underground utilities and we toss out Comcast.
Also, stuff sold out locally is often sold out on Amazon as well.
