The extended cut is horrible

Made the mistake of checking out the extended cut for my annual watch of this film tonight...what a waste of time. The song "Jingle Bell Rock" during the fight in the toy store at the beginning is replaced with a slow, dreary number that completely changes the tone of the entire scene, and for the worst. Simply by changing the song all the humour is instantly removed. Who on earth made such a bizarre decision! If it was a rights issue at least put a song that's of a similar pace and tone to Jingle Bell Rock.

The scenes that were added back in served no purpose other than to slow down the frantic pace of the movie, which was what I always liked most about it. Really, there was a reason these scenes were left on the cutting room floor...stilted and forced about sums them up.

I love this movie but I will cling on to the theatrical cut with an iron fist if the extended version is the one the studio/tv networks want us to see these days.

Omg the same thing happened to me today! I watched the extended cut and was like WTF during the "Jingle Bell Rock" part. Why oh why would they replace that song with something so slow? It didn't match up with the scenes at all! The extended cut was stupid in general, only part I liked was Myron explaining the toy gun he wanted in better detail, listing all the things it could do.

Glad I'm not the only one! It's awful, isn't it? Way to take a really fun, fast paced movie and completely ruin it. What were they THINKING!

I agree with you about that one extra part with Myron, though. That actually worked.

I agree. My DVD has both versions thankfully.
