I get the love, how old were you?

Let me preface the following comments by saying that I think it's great that this movie gets all the love it does. In my mind, if people are entertained, then they got their money's worth and that is all that matters. This is not a commentary on the intellect of fans of this movie. Heck, I love the Three Stooges and still watch them on occasion.

When I came of movie watching age, the summer blockbusters were films like Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark and others. I still watch these almost every time they are on TV. Are these movies "better" than ID4? Who knows and it doesn't matter. What I am proposing is that ID4 was and is so well liked because many of us saw it when we were kids. The nostalgic memories of lazy summers while seeing blockbuster movies are pleasant to relive, no doubt.

Unfortunately, for me, I was 31 when it came out. My taste in films was much different than when I was a kid. And as a big sci-fi fan, I believe I was spoiled with The Thing, Alien, Aliens and the first two Star Wars films.

That being said, I was greatly underwhelmed by ID4. I just finished watching it again this last week and it just doesn't register with me at all. There are so many things I don't like about it, but in the end, who cares? All that matters is if YOU liked it.

Btw, at 51, there are movies I turn my brain off and still find entertaining. Battleship is an example. I think it's a pretty awful piece of filmmaking, but I was entertained.

How old were you when you first saw ID4 and liked it?

I was 14 and I hated it, this movie is not for intelligent people. Only dumb american jocks get a kick out of this sh!t.

I was 5 when the movie came out and only saw it when I was 14-15. I really loved the movie when I first saw it, and had my first and biggest crush on Bill Pullman at that time (until today). For me, ID4 is way better than the new sequel, and not gonna lie...Bill Pullman was the main and only reason why I watched the new Independence Day: Resurgence.

Once again, I must say that Bill Pullman was the main attraction in ID4 and he did a really great performance portraying as President Thomas J. Whitmore (a very handsome president, btw). Up until today, I still keep re-watching ID4 and his speech gets to me all the time and...it feels great. For me, ID4 was and is a good movie.

So in a nut shell, you're a young woman who creams your panties over men in their 60s. Ok, got it. You could of just cut to the chase you know, there was no need to ramble on about your Bill Pullman crush.

It's ok, I don't mind if she does.

I was 12. Here is my timeline.

Loved it at the age of 12.

Hated it in college due to Liberalism.

Loved it again at the age of 26 after I got that Liberalism out of my system.

Love it at the age of 32 today!!!

I was ten. I loved it then & still enjoy it now.

It had everything that a movie needed to have, according to my ten year old brain. The aliens were scary and meant business, The romantic parts with the dolphin ring, heartfelt moments like promising his son fireworks, moments that were probably meant to be serious but I thought they were funny. (When hes reading the paper and everyone is hauling ass around him)
