Out There - sped up?

First of all let me say that I am a huge fan of this film - it was released when I was 8 years old and I loved it then, I was a little obsessed with it actually!
I hadn't watched it in years - up until a few months ago when I booked a trip to Paris and of course i was inspired to watch it again. I saw it in a completely different way and if it is possible, I love it even more. A truly wonderful film.

I was always in awe of Tom Hulce's performances but especially his unique singing voice. I downloaded bits of the original soundtrack and noticed that "Out There" sounds different. It sounds to me like the version used in the film, the vocal has been sped up slightly. Does anyone know why this was done?
