The Worst Of The First Four
Hellraiser: Bloodline has many problems, and you know they're coming when the director's credit reads Alan Smithee (anybody whos been watching films long enough ought to know that's not a good sign). This is a part of two of the worst trends in 90s horror, one is Family Curse Explanation (as in Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday and Halloween 6) and the even more dreadful Slasher Goes To Space trend (Leprichuan 4: In Space and Jason X). Also, the reluctant director manages to conjure none of the dark atmosphere or style that made the first two films so strong. Pinhead shows up casually after a while, just like any other character, and he's never scary. The plot jumps through time, not focusing on anything long enough to engage the audience. What can be the explanation for such a badly fumbled misfire of a sequel? How is it this wasn't the end of the series? Why the hell would anybody like it?
