There is no director's cut version, there is only an alternative workprint. It should be bittorrented though i know there were a few problems. If there's no version currently online I'll see to getting one up.

I just finished editing a 720P HD version of my fan workprint and I'm uploading it to youtube as I write this. I'm gonna try and find a way to get the 3.5 GB file up online for download as soon as I can (Most likely in parted RAR files).
As for the original copy of the workprint, I'm sure you've found a copy of that by now lol.

What approach have you done with this? Is it just the alternative workprint cut with superior footage, or does it combine either of the versions? Is it based on the original intended (and still undiscovered) cut, or is it your own version?

I used the workprint copy that's floating around as my primary template while making a few changes of my own.
I don't use every bit of deleted material, mostly just whole scenes that were cut out. So its pretty much an HD version of my previous cut (Found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4vvPZYpdHA) with minor differences and improvements. One improvement being that I changed the pitch of Pinhead's voice in the workprint to match the rest of the film.
Some time in the future, I may re-cut it to how it was originally intended utilizing production stills, using my own special effects, acting out dialogue for missing scenes/lines (I used to be an actor, not a big problem for me) and personally drawing images for whatever else is missing.
Right now, the 3rd segment (Out of 8) is being uploaded to youtube. Sorry for how long its taking, its taking 2-3 hours per segment to upload to youtube because of the enhanced quality.
