To me, this was the only good Adam Sandler movie. The Water boy was okay, but not good.

Have you seen Big Daddy and Billy Madison too? All of his 90's movies are pretty similar really. They started dropping and varying in quality a lot after 2000.
Though I agree that Happy Gilmore is definitely the best.
I think Billy Madison is just as good as Happy Gilmore. It's sillier and the concept is far fetched but it has some great scenes. Big Daddy was also pretty good but I never got into The Waterboy. It has some funny parts but is basically pretty stupid.
I think Sandler's decline started with Little Nicky. I think the only decent movies he's been in since that one was Grown Ups and Just Go With It.
Same, except I also like The Wedding Singer.
shareI really liked the 90's stuff. I saw most of them in the theater, Airheads, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer and Big Daddy. I even saw that movie Bulletproof, some generic buddy action movie with Adam and Damon Wayans. We were trying to kill time and it was the only thing showing. I didn't see The Waterboy until it came out on DVD. I've never been a big fan of that one. It seemed like a winning idea, Adam Sandler and football, but I thought it was just too silly. I know a lot of people who like it though.
kwarnold is right though, 2000 is when it started to go down. Little Nicky and Mr. Deeds are too stupid for words. There have been a lot of bad ones and a few mediocre ones. The Longest Yard isn't the worst remake I've ever seen, but it wasn't very good. Especially compared to the original. Punch Drunk Love was OK, but I wouldn't watch it again. I heard Anger Management was just OK and that those Grown Ups movies are awful.

Agreed. Sandler should've played more straight laughs during his prime, his lunatic roles were awful.

Yeah he is horrendous as are his movies !!! Punch drunk love is his only tolerable film. PTA does no wrong.
shareWhile I'm not a Sandler fan by any means, a few of his flicks (none made in the last decade) are a little more than tolerable for me. But yes, Happy Gilmore is a good comedy movie in its own right and it has much more to offer than his other sillier movies. Not to mention it's the one I've watched the most.
