Some facts about the movie

This movie was actually filmed in a town called Taft, CA. They changed the name on the High school and the sign as you drive into town to say Tate.
The high school is actually Taft Union High School. I graduated from there and a lot of my friends were actually extras in the movie.
All scenes showing parts of the school, such as the library or the locker room, were filmed in the high school.
The football team you see Coach Nash huddled with is actually TUHS's team. I played with some of those guys.
The drive in you see everybody hang out at is "The Frozen Mug", a car hop that had been around since the 50's. I used to work there until the place closed down about 1999. It's now an Ollie's or something like that.
The dodge dealership you see the guys working at: The actual dodge dealership in our town. Located on Center St.

This whole movie was filmed in Taft and it's surrounding areas. If any of you have any questions regarding buildings or areas in the movie, I can probably answer them.

Cool thanks for the info.Did you meet Gary Cole or anyone?

Oh well.It sounded cool anyway.

I don't think this movie was based on actual people or events since they changed the names of everything, including the school and local businesses. There are plenty of student/teacher relationships all over the country they could have based the movie off of but as far as I know it was a work of fiction.

reply

the film is based on someone...because they showed this film on a channel in the uk where they only show true stories. if anyones from the uk here then they'll know what im on about.

xx Blessed be xx Love u Drew!!!

reply

Yes its on right now (Sky 333) and I'm just trying to find out some facts of the actual case.
Its a pretty poor movie so far.

reply

yh...the channels called true movies??

xx Blessed be xx Love u Drew!!!

reply

it doesn't have to be a true story to be on 333, just inspired by. For example many cases happen in real life similar to the one in the movie so therefore it's considering a "true life" story.

reply

If it is it's not about anyone in my town. The case that was similar to this in our town did not happen until 5 years after the movie. As I said in an earlier post, the concept is nothing new. There are plenty of cases of teachers having relationships with students all over the world.

reply

Any other facts?

reply

I also graduated from Taft Union High School, a year before the movie was shot. I believe the case movieguy6000 is talking about involved a male teacher who was notorious for having relationships with female students for many, many years. He just didn't get caught until 5 years after the movie was shot. I'm pretty sure that the movie is not based on him, since, if I remember correctly, he was an extra in the movie. It's just ironic.

Taft is often used for movies. "The Best of Times" was probably the biggest movie filmed there and it's sorta based on Taft. The Brad Pitt scene in "Thelma and Louise" (where the ladies pick him up on the side of the road) was filmed about 2 miles outside of town. There's a bunch more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

reply

This film is on true movies2 now, not exactly riveting stuff so far.

reply

I believe the movie is based on the actual case described in the legal document found at the following link(note Skip Hollandsworth wrote the article which this movie was based on):

Just watching it on Sky and the film seems to jump, one minute they are stood talking, next minutes, hours seem to have passed by and you have to fill in the blanks. I would hope if this was on DVD, it was the FULL version.

reply

Sorry, I know you participated in this discussion over 6 years ago, but no one has cleared this up: I read the article this movie is about a long time ago. If you watch at the beginning when Amy shows up at her first day of school while the credits are rolling it says "based off an article by Skip Hollandsworth" or something to that effect. This movie is based on a true story that Skip Hollandsworth writes about. The real girl is Brooke Graham from Taylor, Texas and the teacher is Coach Lee Stroud. Many of the events talked about in the article appear in the movie. Brooke and her mother did take her case to the supreme court and change the law for a student to be protected by the school system.

reply

It wasn't fiction, but they did change a lot of it. it happened to a girl now woman named Brooke Graham and it took place in Texas, not Oklahoma like it did in the movie.

reply

Here's a link to the article about the actual events that happened. They seem quite similar to the movie, even down to some of the dialogue:

What is the song Amy listened to through out the whole movie? The song Coach Nash played while Amy and her friends where at the drive-in?

reply

The Mavericks, a country band, are frequently played throughout the movie. "Oh what a thrill" and "What a cryin shame" are just a couple. Hope this helps.

reply

I am confused now. This movie was a true story about a case that was prosecuted in Tate, Oklahoma. Apparently it was filmed in Taft, California. Where did the real story being portrayed in this movie actually take place, Oklahoma or California? It looked more like Oklahoma than California.

reply

I can't even find a reference to a city named Tate in Oklahoma. Can you provide a link to some information on that case?

I can assure you that this movie was filmed in California. It's not all sandy beaches you know. We've got our oil fields. Lots of them.

reply

It takes place in OK but was filmed in CA. Most movies and TV series are not filmed where they take place. 'Grey's Anatomy' tkes place in WA but is filmed in CA for example.

reply

hey what year did you graduate? My brother graduated in 99 there at TUHS and i graduated in 03 and I've gone to school in Taft since kindergarten

reply

2000.

reply

Yes the movie was filmed in Taft California Im from there and my brother was a freshman there when they filmed it.you know the funny thing it actually happened with a coach and a teacher there in Taft a couple years ago but I wont mention any names.

reply

who was the coach, I am trying to find information on the people

reply

Jessie Lynn Stroud is the coach.
This happened to Brooke Graham who is now a country music singer.
