Maggie Smith under used?

What do people think - i think with a few more senes could have been hysterical! She was SO camp and SO SO funy in it! and had fab costumes!

I totally agree she should have been shown more. The original script called for more scenes between her and "Shelly" (Sarah Jessica Parker) including a trip in the red lambourgini, however these scenes were never shot. A scene that takes places after the auction involving Goldie Hawn and Maggie Smith was deleted, which is a real pity because Maggie was fantastic in this film.

Probably fear. Maggie is a notorious scene stealer and would have overshadowed any of the principle actresses in the film.

Just think about the funeral when she sees Goldie Hawn out front and says"Oh God what a tragedy---and your lips?" Hilarious and easily the best line in the film-as delivered by Smith.

I didn't care for Maggie Smith's non-British accent, but I have to agree, she was one of the highlights of this film, because she didn't overact like the main 3 ladies (well, Diane Keaton was funny in parts from purposely overacting). Smith and Parker were amusing together in their short scene, and the film would have been good if there had been more genuinely comical scenes like this, with or without Smith....Instead of all the mugging and yelling between the main 3.

It was on tv today and they cut parts of the luncheon scene down.

I was very disappointed.
