Patheticly One Sided

what about a first husbands club? what about all the gold digging whores who marry their husbands just long enough to leave them with half of everything. Hollywood is scared to portray anyone but a man as a villain.

its not that the moivie isnt fair or listens to men at all. Is it so bad that men go after younger women? I mean if the MOVIE listened to why men do this. Are men human beings?
These movies just have a HATRED for men. They view men as either Robotic Humans or Evil spawn...
IF the movie would listen to both sides and treat them as Humans....
But I dont think hollywood would ever do that ...

Oh poor men. Boo-hoo.

Funny how the few times men whinge we get that, considering whinging is something women are collectively very very good at.

This movie was *beep* hypocritical and *beep*

Because there's a history of persecution and subjugation surrounding your sex.

It was supposed to be one-sided...it wouldn't have worked without being one-sided.

I really don't understand this.

Man marries woman. They both work, their careers grow, they both start to earn more money. They start a family. They decide woman will stay home with the kids, why not they can afford it. Years go by.

Now here there are variations. Maybe he earns lots of money. They are very comfortable, maybe even very rich. She takes care of the household, kids, cooks dinner every night. They go golfing together, play tennis at the club. Meet friends on the weekends. Travel. Then he starts to get bald. And fat. Maybe she starts to get a little thick in the waist. She has a few wrinkles.

He starts noticing young beautiful women everywhere he goes. They notice his platinum Amex card. He starts going out less with his wife and more with "the guys". He starts noticing that he has stress from the office and things he likes to talk about (work) that his wife knows nothing about. He is now in a full blown midlife crisis. He is prime pickings for an affair with a younger woman.

His wife didn't "do anything wrong". She just doesn't know how to communicate with him now. She has a hard time understanding his stress. He has a hard time understanding that running a house and raising kids can be a full-time job (unless you have a staff).

Then of course, there's the young, beautiful secretary/assistant at work, who just understands him so much better than his wife.

Believe me, communication breakdowns happen between two people, but when two people share a life together, you work to mend the problem. With help if necessary. You don't do a trade-in because you are bored.

No matter what the situation, it sucks to get traded for a newer model. Whether it happens to a man or a woman. Unfortunately, I would agree that this happens much more frequently to women than to men.

To each their own...opinion

Because I was really looking forward to watching a movie about a fair and amicable divorce with no other plot or rising action

In reality over half of all marriages end in divorce, and about 75% of all divorces are initiated by women. So the great majority of the members of the "First Wives Club" are there through actions they initiated, not because they were dumped by selfish, oafish, sex crazed husbands.

There also been a huge change in the past two generation with respect to adultery. 50 years ago it was disapproved of in both sexes, but tacitly tolerated in males so long as they were discreet and avoided scandal or publicly humiliating their wives. Today there's moral outrage if a man is caught cheating, and it is far more extreme than the reactions to female infidelity. "People" magazine (heavily marketed toward brain damaged American housewives) has a whole genre of covers on female "victims" of men. The irony is that many of these "victims" (Meg Ryan, for example, who has vied with Princess Diana and Jennifer Aniston for the largest number of "People" covers) had affairs that precipitated the break up of their marriages. Another irony is that this film included a cameo appearance by Kathie Lee Gifford, who underneath her hyper-religious Christian posturing is actually a hussy who displaced the first Mrs Gifford.

In my experience, women initiate the divorce because they get tired of their husband cheating over and over. Even my mom, when she divorced my dad after over 10 years of cheating OVER and OVER and begging mom to not leave him, she finally said enough was enough and filed.

Funny thing was then my dad got upset and told her SHE was destroying their family by getting a divorce.

Now he's married to the woman he was cheating with when my mom kicked his butt out. And that lady has a TIGHT control on my dad. She won't let him do a thing without her- serves him right :p

Oh, please! When men behave badly, it's because "all men are dogs". When women behave badly (raping 12 year old students, drowning her children in a lake and blaming it on a "black man in a wool hat", chopping off her husband's penis and running it down a garbage disposal) it's because "she's bipolar", "her father was abusive" "the 12 year old was seductive and he had a woody, so it's not rape".
