I had no clue about this film until two days ago....

...Hugh Grant should make more thrillers.

Totally agree. I can't imagine anyone finding something bad to say about his performance in this! I saw it when it first hit cable ('97/'98) and really liked it, enough to record it for later viewings. But I was a huge fan of the medical thriller Coma (the book and the film) and always enjoy a good hospital mystery anyway.

I'd only seen Grant in about four movies by the time I saw this so his "foppish Brit" thing hadn't been done to death yet, but in the years following I started wondering why he let himself get so pigeonholed. He does a great job in serious roles. I just recently saw Impromptu and was surprised at his take on Chopin (who was supposedly very complex) -- pleasantly surprised, as the character wasn't entirely likable and a bit awkward. Such a far cry from the bumbling-boy-next-door bit. I'd love to see him in another mystery.

Agree 1000% - he was outstanding in this - wish he did more films like this one.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

You have to wonder, both he and Colin Firth did a lot of really good really unseen films, (they have both said of rom-coms "I make other films but no one watches them") then Four Weddings hit and Hugh became a huge star. But for Four Wedding perhaps Hugh would be in Oscar races these days. He is a very good comedic actor but he has a really interesting body of pre-stardom work.
