Seagal's death.

If I'm not mistaken I believe I was 15 years old when this movie first came out. At the time I was still a reasonably considerable Steven Segal fan. when I heard this movie was coming out and he was starring next to Kurt Russell, I was psyched. Steven Seagal and Kurt Russell on the same side fighting terrorists on board an airplane? to me that was an awesome plot and an awesome pairing. I went to see this in the theaters and when Segal flew out of that plane, I was mad! it took about half way into the movie for me to stop and realize that you know,if Segall had survived and made it on board the plane, it would have been a power struggle for heroism between him and Russell. Soon after I thought to myself that it was a brilliant way to approach this movie. it turned out being nothing more than an awesome Kurt Russell action movie, which proved that whenever bad guys need taken down, Seagal is not always your man. it also proves how unique this movie is because nobody's taken this approach since this was made. It's almost like doing an action movie with Chris Hemsworth and Jason Statham and Statham dies 10 minutes into the movie.

"You asked me to find the son of a bitch, sir. I never thought the son of a bitch would be you."

Russel makes this movie- pure and simple. I have always been a fan and he is perfect in this role. No Rambo style hero but instead just your everyday working stiff saving the day (with some help obviously). Great popcorn movie with a super cast!

I remember when I first saw it, I was blown away that the Seagal character was killed off so early, but you're right. It is a clever plot device. This film always reminds me a bit of the old John Wayne western, The Cowboys, where the Duke gets unexpectedly killed off about a third of the way through.🐭
