Who would you have sided with?

It seems the movie presented three options Snake had at the end.

1. Side with the anarchists and you have total freedom....but total chaos and a collapse of society. Death was right around the corner and could come for no reason at all.

2. Side with the fascists. The degree of control would seem suffocating to most all of us. The penalties were still almost as harsh as well. However, you would still have a functioning society.

3. Reset the world. However (as another poster stated), you'd be killing thousand or millions in planes and vehicles across the world. Millions more would starve so this would (in a sense) make you worse than either despite the intentions being noble; funny how that often happens with choices made in the name of freedom.

Id hate any choice but Id pick the president's side if it came down to it. At least there was order, law, and a good standard of living. Id miss the red meat but could deal with chicken :)

Ironically, if you side with Snake, you kind of are siding with the anarchists. Because with the power down, you know they are coming off the island.

I'm a married man with two kids, so it would be easy to take the President's side. Although I wouldn't be able to grill on my deck 2-3 times a week like I do now. Come to think of it, that society isn't all that different from the one in Equilibrium.

Anarchy's coming to town. A firey invader.

Never thought I'd say this but #2, fascism.

The two films give a pretty good idea of what life would be like without law n' order!

An underrated film, IMO. Loved the decision at the end, totally in-keeping with Snake's character.

I would have sided with the Anarchists. Although I disagree that they were all Anarchists, they were just called "the third world". It seemed like it was just going to be a major world scale revolution, and sometimes a revolution can be healthy.

After the dust settled from basically what would be world war three, the people who survive would assume control and hopefully attempt to create a co-operative society wherein quality of life, standard of living and level of freedom are such that there would be no need for a world war four.

Then again, we still fight each other after two world wars, a cold war and numerous conflicts in the middle east and there is no one calling for world peace yet, so...

Thanks for the responses. It would not be any easy choice by any means. It seems we'd rather (and wisely so) pick a bit more of a controlled society than anarchy. I would still miss the red meat, though.

I'd have done what Snake did.

The Worlds overpopulated and almost out of resources. This way everyone gets a level playing field, rather than the stronger militry powers raping the less powerful countries for their oil and minerals etc.

plus it would end pollution

Snake had no love for the government, especially what they did to his family while he was serving his country. So I can see where Snake was coming from and why he did what he did. And after what they just tried to do to him, if it were me, I'd have done what he did too.

Millions? Try billions. The Human population would be reduced by 90%. Without technology there is zero way for our enormous numbers to be supported.

I would have reset the world.
