Who took the photos?

The photos show Nicole and Mia leaving the house with the box - Guy inside. But who took the photos?
Another plot hole?

Guy was not actually in the box...He quickly got out before Mia could see it. He took the photos from across the street, probably behind hedges or something. It was not a plot hole. This is a great movie.

If Guy wasn't in the box but outside taking pictures, then what WAS in the box? It was, after all, pretty darned heavy for an empty wicker trunk. Also, since we're talking plot holes, why did the detective find the breathing tube in the box if Guy was never in it? And wouldn't he have needed it to stay submerged in the pool at least until Mia had gone into the school?

reply

I think maybe books were in the box, as Nicole says. Then, maybe Guy met back up with her later and got into the basket (a stretch). It is weird, though, since water leaked out (looked like Bijou the dog peed, but that could have been water in the basket fibers vs Guy's clothes. But Guy had to be in the basket, since they pushed him out later in the pool. Yep - plot holes and many questions.

I have a question - who did Nicole get those pills from?

"This is a great movie."

I sttronglt disagree with this and I mean STRONGLY! This is a horrible, hhorrible film. Terrible acting, script, direction and a blatant "twist" What? He's not dead? He planned it with Sharon Stone? Well that was suprising. I mean come on!

Maybe the photos were taken for Nicole by her downstairs tenant's hubby, who she got to do it by giving him a sexy look when she caught him looking longingly at her butt as she bent over the TV.

But...what about the photos taken of the women actually PICKING UP THE DEAD BODY OUT OF THE TUB AND PACKING IT IN THE BOX ETC ETC??? Who took THOSE?

Can't have been Guy since he was in the tub/box while playing dead, etc...?

LOL I genuinely laughed at this post because i thought it was great sarcasm until i realized this was the only possibility, as stupid as it might sound.

Unless, of course there's a third party involved the viewer hasn't been told about, but that would require to rewrite the internal laws of this universe, something that should be done only in last resort when analyzing a movie.

Granted, it would be much easier to label it a plot hole, which it probably was. It doesn't make much sense to fill the box with actual books, hide across the street and take pictures of that specific moment and in doing so increase the risk of getting seen when they could have just made pictures of the box itself at another moment with or without him in it. That said, the advantage of not having him be really in the box during transport is that you can't get caught by the police if god forbid the cops were to open it in an unlikely situation like an accident/flat tire such as depicted in the movie. If their plan took into consideration such random imponderable events, then it's kinda smart, but again, it seems more likely to me that the writers simply didn't think it through.

Just like it doesn't make much sense to fight and scream around so much if your aim is to pretend to be killed by your wife and mistress. You would want to be as quiet as possible and make it look like your mistress' plan worked to the letter because anything else could mean being discovered. Why would he take longer to pretend to be unconscious due to the drug, as Adjani's character suggests?

If on second viewing the story doesn't add up, then it is bad writing in my book. Anyway.

All in all, i think it's a good question and OP has a point. It didn't occur to me at all. But it's not like i was enthralled by the movie anyway.

I think it was Kathy's exhusband and that is why she kinda helped in the end. She took the photos, placed the newpaper under the door and got involved to see that he died.

I'm not sure who took the pictures of Mia and Nicole. But Guy was in the box. If you remember near the end when Guy thinks Mia is dead he tells Nicole he still has a cold from "sucking on that douche-bag hose for 8 hours and that ride in the back". (of the car)

I think the best American version of this film is Reflections of Fear with Sam Waterston playing the headmaster.

I think regardless of whether people believe it was Guy or not taking the photo's, as this wasn't explained it's probably up to the viewer to determine
