Adam on varsity

i finaly saw d3 after years of wanting to see it and i was wondering why there were no reactions to wen adam made varsity. i was also wondering wat he was thinking the whole time he was on varsity like was he mad or happy. has anybody else noticed?

reply

Yeah.
I notice that too.
D3 mainly focuses on Charlie though.
But I would like to know how Adam and other Ducks felt in D3, there is always the MD novels, I heard they're hard to get a hold of.

reply

ok you obviuosly werent paying attention, charlie and the rest of the ducks were pissed that adam was on varsity i.e when they freeze all the varsity clothes they put the machine onto full for adams clothes and two when they play them at dawn at the end of the "game" charlie brings adam down and they start a fight!

reply

Yeah, but in the locker room, they hardly even reacted.

In the book, it says a few congratulated him.

"Why are you wearing glasses?"
"Uh, reading."
"Hm. Didn't know you could read."

reply

The people in the Mighty Ducks are terrible actors so you never know. That fight wasn't between Charlie and Adam. I thought Ken Wu and Goldberg wanted to fight. That would have been the pussy fight of the century.

reply

They did Adam a favor by freezing his clothes too actually. How would it look if they froze everyone else's clothes but not Adam's? Varsity would've made his life a living hell.

reply

I wonder if class was part of it. Not only was Adam the best player but he was also the only one who was rich like them. Eden Hall might have thought he belonged with the varsity boys more.

reply

the ducks didnt have a right to be mad at Adam it wasnt his choice to be in varsity

reply

But they were mad at him when he first joined them in the other movie because he played for the wrong district. He didn't have control over his old coach or his move.

reply

Charlie did get mad after the varsity left the bill. Even though Banks said he didn't know, Charlie didn't believe him. I was a little confused that he switched back to JV so easily. Why didn't he do that to begin with?

reply

For all the talk of him being a rich snob, if anything he gets picked on more than anyone in the entire series. In the first movie the Ducks didn't want him just because he played for a different team plus they all assumed he was a rich scumbag. Later on his old hawk buddy puts him in the hospital in the state finals just because again, he played for a different team. In the second movie Sanderson damn near breaks his wrist on a dirty hit then Portman almost takes his head off just for defending Julie. In the third movie he makes varsity and everyone hates him for...you guessed it...being on another team.

Of course if this were real he'd be in the NHL laughing at everyone who ever wronged him lol

reply

Adam has never really been a Duck like the others. He only was a Duck after Gordon wanted him on the team (hes the one that mentioned the new team zones-no one else seemed to care) and in D2 he was taken off the team when his wrist was broke (it sounded like he had gone home and wasn't in the hotel with the others)

reply

In D2 it never sounded like he went home. The scene after he talks to Bombay is showing him on the ice in a sling helping to coach the Ducks. He was always there he just couldn't play.

True he always seems to be separated from the Ducks in some way in every movie but I think it adds more to his character. We know more about him becuase something is alwasy happening to him. I would rather see that then him becoming forgotten in the background like other Ducks did.

He's one of the most in depth characters in these movies when it comes to the Ducks. Probably right behind Charlie who is the main Duck. He may not have a lot of lines but at least he has gotten a lot of storie plots and so on.

reply

Adam definitely wasn't happy to be on varsity. He sounded more disgusted than anything. And the whoel thing with Charlie? He was just never good with change, and let's not forget he's fourteen-years old.

reply

charlie was just jealous of banks' talent...insecurity issues

reply

Well if you watch his reaction when they are looking at the roster, Adam was like "I made varsity?".

I don't think the Ducks could even blame Adam for being on varsity, because that's more of a upgrade if anything.

The one thing about Adam Banks is that he wanted to make his dad proud and be well-known. In D2, that is where we get to know more about him. There's that scene where he's sitting next to Charlie and is asked, "What you looking at? Some girl in the stands?". Adam replies "No, scouts".

It's like Fulton was the only person who even talked about Dean Portman staying in Chicago, before he finally accepted his scholarship. Since Russ was now on the team as well, no one even mentions Jesse lol. Then there was that whole "Take off your Ducks uniform or you're not on the team". Charlie and Fulton were the only ones who left the team at that time. Other players didn't want to give up that opportunity, whether it was playing hockey or the free education they receive through the scholarship. So I guess the Ducks were used to not having players not always being there.

It is unfortunate to see a close teammate leave, however that just means more opportunity for playing time. This is why we probably see Charlie going crazy on his scoring, no Adam Banks. Adam is in the stands though kind of cheering the Ducks on.

reply

Adam was definitly not happy about being on varsity.

and about the fight. in my opinion i think Charlie was just realy stressed at the time with Bombay leaving and having his C taken away, along with the varsity pranks. i dont think his anger was directed toward Adam personaly, i think he just want to let out the stress and Adam was just there at the time.

reply

I'm not sure how many of you played hockey in high school, but its not exactly easy to be moved to Varsity in the state of Minnesota....especially if Eden Hall was as good as they were proclaiming with all their banners and stuff in their arena. Banks was disappointed that he wasn't on the team with his friends any longer and it was meant to sound like he was in shock. However, he was never in on the pranks that the Varsity was doing to the Ducks as we saw when they all went to the fancy dinner and he told Charlie "don't worry guys, its okay" and then he left with the team. As mentioned before, they were given free rides to one of the most "elite" schools in the state (in other words its not supposed to be Eden Prairie but Shattuck-Saint Mary's Boarding School in Minnesota where players like Sidney Crosby played). This means the players are being scouted hardcore.

I do think Charlie was pissed at Banks and he really did mean to fight him. Charlie felt betrayed that after all those years of the team being together that Adam would willingly play with the Varsity team.....just as he was upset that everyone took their Ducks sweaters off and only Fulton and himself did it. Then he felt betrayed by Fulton because he went crying back while he was trying to convince him to go up to Canada to play in the Juniors. We see the frustration go to Gordon as well because he felt betrayed that his mentor was staying with the USHO as Head Coach and was going to be coached by someone else. He tells Hans this when he says "He's no duck..."

reply

Adam didn't get enough screen time in this. Quite disappointing considering they gave him a story and never really expanded on it, aside from a few minor things.

reply

Agree, they should have spent more screen time on him. I was watching it last night and after he and Charlie fought on the ice you see them roller-skating with the others like nothing had happened. They needed a bridging scene where they apologise to him and welcome him back. They were kinda lousy friends really, freezing his jersey because he was on varsity. On top of being injury prone and being separated from his friends you gotta feel for him lol

He made varsity because of his immense skill (he was like the next Gretzky for gods sake) and I think the only reason he originally went to play for them was because he knew it was a great opportunity. As we saw in D2 he was very ambitious and serious of continuing a hockey career way past his childhood so it was a big thing for him. Was he happy? Probably not but honestly if the varsity team wasn't a group of dicks that screwed with his former team so much I doubt he would have left them. He wasn't kicked as he left voluntarily and I feel that's a very underrated moment for his character that the film didn't really emphasize as he was passing up what was a big deal for him just so he could be back with his friends.

reply

He and Julie were pretty much the only players who didn't suck, that's why he made varsity, I'm guessing Julie didn't because they didn't want the varsity team to catch her cooties.

reply

They did Adam dirty in the movies. They always make him side with the enemy and then when he's actually with the Ducks they don't let us see him play
