NOT scary for adults

I watched this on FearNet today and was not scared once. Parts were "creepy," but never scary. I guess the fact that I was already familiar with most of these urban legends (and therefore their endings) is mostly to blame. Also, if you've seen the movie Reeker, you won't find the "twist" at the end all that surprising.

However, if you remember reading a book called "In a Dark, Dark Room" when you were a little kid, then you might get a kick out of this movie. Remember the story about the little girl named Jenny who won't tell her childhood sweetheart why she wears a ribbon around her neck? Then, after they're married, when they're old and Jenny is on her deathbed she finally tells him to take it off. Campfire Tales does an interesting take on this story called "The Locket." It was my favorite part of the movie.

I remember reading that story when I was a kid!

I don't know, J Bro, I'm a pretty hardcore horror fan for about 30 years, and I found this at least a little scary. Granted, there aren't really any BOO! moments that work, but watch this in a dark room with headphones and no distractions. That drew me in enough to not feel comfortable walking around the house with the lights off afterward.

I think the Humans can Lick segment can be viewed similar as Cape Fear can be viewed, horrifying in general, particularly horrifying if you're a parent with a young daughter who is by herself. And that if nothing else in the whole movie is terrifying because we all know there are psychos who break into people's homes and kill the kids, and that is scary because there is no supernatural twist or angle to it, it's all a storyline that could very well happen.

My sentiments exactly. I always say that the scariest movies are the ones with the most plausible, realistic story lines.

You are nuts! I love scary movies, been watching them since I was 2 years old and I love this movie! Creepy is scary! The Shining is the scariest movie ever because it's so freaking creepy. I am sick of slasher flicks and gore, I want to see some horror movies with suspense. The Locket segment is so haunting, the repetition of the ghosts is terrifying and realistic. The Humans Lick Hands segment freaked me out. Both those stories seemed pretty original. Even if I had read the stories before, which I hadn't, they were done very well. The Hook story has been done WAY TOO MANY TIMES, but I guess they needed another story.

Why the hell doesn't NETFLIX have this freakin' movie?

Actually this movie is fairly entertaining if you know what to expect. The tales were all variations of fairly well-known urban legends and thus were not really expected to be especially scary. Rather, one would expect relatively simple stories with some thrills and surprises and in this regard the film succeeded to a large degree. It was also clever to break down the film into several separate short stories told by different people sitting at the campfire, since any single theme was unlikely to sustain the viewer’s interest for the entire duration. I also like the last twist though it was not altogether unexpected, since we were not shown earlier how the four teenagers got out of the crashed car. Overall, it wasn’t a particularly great film but was worth the 1 1/2 hrs watching it.

Not scary for this adult, although I have no kids, so perhaps that segment would affect me more if I did.

Not a bad movie at all, but it didn't quite work for me. Too much scratching my head and wondering why I was seeing this or that story. I guess I'd like it more if the "explanation" were more progressive instead of waiting until the very end, although I'm not sure how that would be done.

5/10 for me, though I could see giving it a 6. I kind of wanted to, but it just didn't grab me very well.

People Can Lick Too scares me, the guy reminds me of Bob on Twin Peaks. So that makes me more scared.

Fear can be kind of subjective. However this movie scared the *beep* out of me as an adult. I did know how everything was going to end EXCEPT "The Locket". THAT was the one that scared me so bad I almost started to cry, for Chrissake. Mainly because they changed the story around and I didn't see it coming, it seemed like an interesting, standard ghost story, then they're sitting out in the sun, he takes it off to look at it... this was over ten years ago and I still remember her looking scared and asking "what's... wrong... with meeee?" and her head tumbling off and him screaming and screaming. THEN I realized what story it was a re-telling of, because I had that goddamned scary record as a child, and freaked the *beep* out!

Definitely better than "Campfire Stories", a similar movie with a title that's easy to confuse.

Well..... I first watched this as an adult about a year after it came out. Even though I knew most of the stories in one form or another, I found them scary and entertaining. I own it now and I still enjoy it if for nothing else, Monster Mash at the very end! 

I agree. Watching this was like watching Nickelodeon's "Are you afraid of the Dark"

awwww... but it's a fun film!
I have to say that "People Can Lick Too" is quite frightening when you hear about all the crazy people out there laying in wait for children!
