This movie got a lot of hate when it first came out, but I think it's because no one was ready for creepy jim carrey. He made it right after ace Ventura and the mask, and all of the sudden he's this creepy stalker guy in this movie. So I think that's why it got a lot of bad reviews. But if you watch it now, out of context in relation to any of his other movies, it's really pretty funny.

I third that opinion. Saw this movies in theaters when it first came out and thought it was hilarious. Still think it's hilarious to this day. Probably Jim Carrey's most underrated performance.
