Chris Farley

As much as I love Chris Farley and Jim Carrey, I just can't picture Chris playing this role, yes as a plumber and even a cable guy, but not as quaky as Jim did, it would be different though.

As good as Farley was, the role would have been terrible for him and the film would taken a very different turn. This was perfect for Jim and I still think this is his best role to date.

I think Farley could have definitely pulled off the quirky and off-the-wall comedic side of the Chip character, but Carrey was definitely better suited to pull off that part and also give Chip that disturbing and uncomfortable edge that I just can't see Farley portraying.

I kind of agree. It would have been a different kind of movie if CF has been the cable guy. But he did pretty good being a bizarre irritating "friend" in Tommy Boy.

my god its full of stars

If Chris Farley had starred, it would of been a lot more light hearted, and the Cable Guy would have been more of an annoying freind. When Jim Carrey came on board, the movie turned into a movie with a more darker tone.

I always thought that the script Lou Holtz Jr. wrote was great, and it’s what got us all very interested. But Jim wanted to change it significantly and make it much more of a comedic version of Hand that Rocks the Cradle or Unlawful Entry, whereas the original draft was a little bit more like a What About Bob? annoying-friend movie. It had a light punch to it, and we wanted to turn it into a thriller. So it did require a lot of work. But we were all big fans of the original script and a lot of the things that we built upon were obviously in that draft.

I think it would have been pretty damn funny if David Spade played Steven and Chris Farley played Chip! Like the guy above me said, it would have been like the original screenplay- just a comedy and no thriller aspect like the one we have now.
