I always assumed it was meant to be a pun on the word "Czarina" - I think that's the wife of the Czar, the monarchs of certain European countries. Could it be meant as a pun on this and as as a word that means "antique" at the same time?
shareI think it was Starina because a lot of the stage costumes he had were from famous divas...the Judy Garland tramp, etc. I remember the muff costume, but not who wore it originally.
