Robin Williams should have done the Albert Goldman MOTHER's part

Nathan Lane just G@Y, he was not acting.

Way to prove just how ignorant you are.

It was actually refreshing to see Robin Williams in a comedy where he wasn't acting too goofy and playing the straight man to Nathan Lane's antics.

Besides, Lane ruled this movie. There were a few scenes where he went a little too over-the-top but, for the most part, he nailed it.

They were originally going to play the roles oppositely, but decided it would work better with Williams as Armand and Lane as Albert.

I completely agree! Nathan Lane did a fantastic job. I was dying laughing. His character was over the top but his performance was natural. Robin Williams was great as the father and a good balance to Nathan's character. And yes, it was refreshing to see Robin Williams less goofy.

My understanding is he thought exactly that same thing himself and that's the reason he requested to play the "straight man" to Nathan Lane.

Absolutely. Lane is sublime in this film (other stand outs for me are Hackman and Azaria), he is over the top (the part calls for it), but along with that, there are incredible moments of subtlety.

He is a joy to watch.
