The kind of neglected gem the search for which is why I keep watching.

As a non-professional yet staunch and careful critic (I'd like to take this opportunity to draw even more attention to my seriousness), I've thought before that my careful-yet-continued patronage of the Hollywood Industrial Complex past age 25 (for those still reading, "post-meta-") is a bleak, masturbatory appetite that shouldn't be revealed to strangers or the elderly.

No really, that's the paragraph I've always wanted to post.

This is some lovingly made entertainment. As a cook, I'm an attentive novice but as far as "food movies" go, this only rivals Eat Drink Man Woman for authenticity (this doesn't become a personals ad until I spell out my phone number, all sneaky-like).

But that's not why you watch it.

In an ideal Hollywoodland too evolved for popularity contests (this pause has been brought to you by the thrills of just being nominated), there could be awards for the following:

Neglected but All-Around Class Act: Isabella Rossellini

Most Attractive Male Actor Over 40 Bearing the Dual Distinction of Harmless and Employed: Stanley Tucci

The Angela Bassett 'No Seriously, I Deserved Better' Memorial Scholarship: Minnie Driver and Campbell Scott (tie)

If you're still reading this, I've found you.

Agreed. There are vanishingly few films in its weight class for rewatchability, appeal on multiple levels, and all-around excellence. A great movie.
