Brilliant, underrated, well written and acted and overall a masterpiece.

Seriously, its one of those well budgeted indpendent films that really made the best of its budget. I really think it could have been a potential nominee at the Academy Awards that year.

Agreed on all counts. And very re-watchable. What I want to know is: why is the DVD long out of print??

I seriously wonder if I saw a different cut of the film than everybody else?

Stanley Tucci and Tony Shaloub are talented actors and respect that this film was a creative labor of love for them both, but I found this film to be unbearably slow and uninteresting. It felt like they got together with a group of friends and wrote a script for each of them to have a big dramatic moment and enjoy nice cuisine while filming. Then it all ended on such a flat note and made me feel like, that's it?

You saw a movie and your response was based on your life experience, and that's okay. Much of my life experience is in the hospitality business, so, to me, this film speaks volumes. There are two realities at play here: (1) give your guests what they already want, and (2) educate your guests to finer experiences. The first reality (Primo) gives you fast, but bland, results. The second (Secondo) gives the more enduring results.

The final note was not flat. It was poignant. Primo will remain in the USA, slinging steak, s'ghetti and meatballs, and Secondo will return to Itally and hone his art.

What a fucking feast! Best in movie history!

I have no relation to the hospitality industry, but I think this is quite simply the best movie about life in general that I have ever seen.

@R_Kane. I agree with your premise.....but I think you have Primo and Secondo mixed up. Primo (Tony Shalhoub) will return to Italy and Secondo (Stanley T.) will stay in the U.S. and do what he needs to do to obtain what he wants to obtain. I especially like your descriptor of the final scene....poignant!

You are right. I switched them at birth! And thank you.
