Question about Willie? (possible spoiler)

Earlier in the movie, he says (to Moe I believe during the "brunch" scene) that he's thinking of "becoming a citizen" and taking a sales job. If he lives/works in New York as a musician, and was obviously raised in Knight's Ridge, Massachusetts, what citizenship was he vying for? I love this movie, but this has always confused me.

He didn't mean citizen to mean citizen of the United States. It was more like he was saying he's thinking of being a regular person on the grid now, who has a job and pays taxes. Citizen is a negative term here. Like "I'm thinking of becoming another working class drone". Sorry, I'm not explaining it well. Does that make sense?

It does make sense. I didn't look at it from a musician's point of view, but it sounds right on to me. Thanks for the follow up!
