Nice film, but unlikable characters

I liked it. In and of itself, the film WAS nice and warm and sensible.

But, were any of the men that were portrayed on film likable? Or even relatable? I don't know. Every woman in the film (with the exception of Darian) seems to be a very mature, too-good-for-you sort of woman. While every man (including Darian's husband) seems to be a perpetually horny lout or a weak wimp. And of course, there's the wise teen/pre-teen with an "old soul." (500 Days of Summer, Definitely Maybe etc.).

Are we men THAT bad at relationships? Are we that stupid and immature all of the time? Do we all need to forcibly shaken out of this funk?

Every character in the film seemed to need this sudden jolt - Tommie needed to cheat and then get beaten up (what was it again... 3 broken ribs and a concussion?) to realize what he was missing all along. Willie needed to be rejected repeatably by Andera (and with right reason, though) and shaken out of his funk by the wise Marty to get with the program. And of course, there was Gina's scathing attack of what she assumed to be every man's idea of a great relationship (with a soft-core porn star, apparently).

Is there such a thing as a misandrist film?

They seemed normal to me, Dr. Phil.

How can you find the film nice, warm, and sensible if you felt that the entire cast of men were weak, horny doltz and the women were nothing more than angry harpies with impossible expectations? The entire film is character driven with no murder, revenge, or even palpable romantic subplot to speak of. As you pointed out in your examples you feel that the film's tone against men would qualify it as a misandrist film. Again, how did you find this film warm, sensible and nice? LOL
