So what's a 'moog' exactly?

During the classic scene where Rosie is walking with Willie and Bird Man through the store lecturing them about the nude photos, she says "and you two moogs..." as part of her dialogue.

What exactly is a "moog" then?

reply

It's "mook" actually. It means a run-of-the-mill dumb guy.

Ah gotcha.

Thanks for the clarification!

No problem. That's my favorite line in the movie. I'm not a fan of most of Rosie O'Donnell's work, but in my opinion, she steals the show in this movie with that scene. Her diatribe pretty much sums up the moral of the entire story.

Interesting. Could you elaborate on that a little bit? I always found Rosie's scene to be very funny, but I had the feeling that it was disconnected from the rest of the movie. I'll probably rethink this... :-)

The story was based on a group of guys who were all coming into full-fledged adulthood, and were all learning the difference between fantasy and reality. They all had fantasies of the perfect woman, and had those fantasies disspelled by the real women in their lives. Rosie's rant was pretty much the moral voice of that central theme.

Yeah but the scene sort of comes out of nowhere. There's no lead up, no indication that they are that close of friends, nothing like that. Don't get me wrong, it's a great scene, one of the best actually, but it's like the director threw it in there just for O'Donnell's character building. Or maybe a scene or two got left on the cutting room floor that led up to that wonderful scene. I don't know, maybe I missed something there.

And I always thought she said moog too. Figured it was like a douche in the way guys razz each other.
