Rare that a movie about 6 men is a chick flick

Never has it been more obvious what race and gender a writer is from watching a movie. I would bet $1000 to a jelly bean that this was written by a middle aged white man. It is rare that a movie written by a man about men can be essentially a chick flick. Now I'm sure plenty of men appreciate this movie but 90% of people that view this as one of their favorite movies are women. This message board is only 2 pages long because a lot more men leave comments on movies than women and this page is short on comments because it is mostly women leaving them. Women in general are rarely intrigued to learn about who wrote a film or who directed it, what year it was made, ect.

Often I will ask women what their favorite movie is and 99% of the time I can tell them 10 times more about that film than they can. I guess learning is something most women don't find interesting. I'm sure the women reading this are cursing my name but it is a fact that men on average know much more about film than women.

There were a few decent moments in this little movie but I found it to be pretentious hollywood writing. Never is it more annoying than when a character is incredibly insightful to add charm and wisdom to the role. Girls (particularly young girls) don't have the insight to see anything that is not right in front of their noses. Even then they miss things because they lack the same curiosity men do.
Most women are mentally lazy because they can afford to be. The Portman character stole the show at least from the male point of view and although she was decent every word that came from her mouth was simply to obviously written by a middle aged white man.

Yes I am a misogynist and have a general distain for women mostly because of my own insecurities and inadequacies but at least I can admit that.

I won't comment about the generalizations about women and the mysogyny because that's not what strikes me.

What strikes me is that this movie lives up to its name. A film with Annabeth Gish, Lauren Holly, Martha Plimpton, Natalie Portman, Mira Sorvino, and Uma Thurman on it? Are you $%%#$ kidding me? This movie is a pleasure for men!

Now, I don't know whether the characters are realistic or unrealistic; but I do know I don't need them to be realistic to enjoy them. If I really want to exercise my brain I can watch Doubt, O'Horten, Proof, The Sunset Limited, or When Nietzsche Wept.

Bravo. Most guys would not even admit that. At least now we all know for sure. It gives your post some authenticity, but also detracts from its credibility.

I would hardly call it a chick flick. Really, in what aspects is it a movie for women? If anything I got a heavy male vibe from it while watching the movie, and not just because there are a lot of men in it. The way the characters deal with things like growing up and growing older are very much from a male perspective. The line from which the movie's name derives demonstrates this. Seriously, don't call a movie a chick flick just because you think it has poor writing. It's quite clear you're just finding an excuse for what you think is a bad screenplay, and "chick flick" is a pretty awful one. Why don't you call it for what you think it is, and stop finding petty excuses to vent your thinly veiled disdain towards the female race.

I only do it with superheroes.

It's a guy movie because the cast is packed with, yes, "Beautiful Girls," including two supermodel-level babes (Holly, Thurman) and a junior-high-age superbabe-to-be (Portman), and most of the rest are pretty good looking.

It's a chick movie because one of the big moments is the brassy assertive not-so-beautiful girl telling two of the hunky meat-brain guys where to get off.

In the end the guys realize they have to start growing up and the girls realize they have to accept guys the way they are. Everybody goes home happy, sort of.

Good Lord, there's a lot of anger in that post. In my experience, this is basically a chick flick for guys. And unless a woman is a Womyn's Studies major or professor, they usually like it, too.

Don't know if you're just trolling but if you're genuine, then oh what a sad little life you must live. Your generalisations, ridiculous assertions, barely repressed rage and misguided contempt make you sound extremely bitter. I'm not interested in hearing about why you're so messed up either but maybe some counselling will do the trick. Please don't make the assumption that just because you've recognised you're a misogynist that makes you better than those misogynists who can't or won't admit they are.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

Oh, I get it. It would have been a better movie if a ruthless terrorist network tried to invade Knight's Ridge. Matt Dillon should have been written as an ex green beret. Don't let Willie's piano skills fool you, he's just a psych evaluation away from getting on with an elite Massachusetts anti-gang unit. Willie and Bird Man organize a Knight's Ridge community that is under siege by Islamo-fascist terrorists and thug street gangs. After a ton of explosions and mangled bodies, terrorism and crime are defeated in Knight's Ridge, and Bird Man walks into the sunset with Andera, who is of course played by Lindsay Lohan, not that stuck up b**** Uma Thurman. Now that would be a movie...bro! Because 'Murica!

That can be the sequel.

And you would lose those $1000 since the director was 33 at the time. Nice try though. Better luck next time.
