I love this movie (small town...easy going characters...well written and thoughtful) and was trying to compile a list of similar movies. Anyone have any brilliant ideas besides Garden State?
Let me know...I'd greatly appreciate it. I often do theme movie parties with my family and the Small Town theme is one I've been dying to add to the lineup!

Hmm. A movie like Beautiful Girls...other than the ones listed above, I would say "Lost in Translation".
I say that the relationship that is "lost in translation" is like Marty and Willie's. I wonder if there was an influence of BG on LIT? But anyway, the relationships between Willie and Marty and Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansen are similar, I believe. The age gap, the seeming connection between the characters...they are romantically inclined, but the age difference is there and that is what was "lost" in the translation.
Just my two cents, I guess...

If you're looking for TV like this film and don't already watch it, October Road is cute. It's written by Scott Rosenburg as well and many of the characters are similar, even the town has the same fictional name. It's not the best show on TV, but it's cute and character driven (my guilty pleasure show :))

"October Road" is actually inspired by what happened to Scott Rosenberg after he made the movie "Beautiful Girls," which was about his real-life hometown friends, and how they didn't especially appreciate his semi-fictionalized account. That in itself makes the show interesting to me.

Know what I say.....there is no other. Beautiful Girls is a masterpiece, once people see the movie it elicits feelings and thoughts of themselves. A series of events happens that connects thoughts and feelings of other things or movies......but Beautiful girls.....one of a kind.
