sharei recently bought a dalmatian. he's 8 weeks and he's called harry. i reccomend them to anyone and everyone. and im open to all questions.
shareI may shortly be appearing in a stage production of The Hundred and One Dalmations, although it hasn't been cast yet, so if I get a role, I don't know whether it'll be as a dog or as a human. Anyway I need to ask, with regard to how to interpret and act the character of a dalmatian: what's the dog like? Labradors are characterized as playful, I suppose, and Siamese cats are sort of sly and subversive... What's a dalmatian like? I get the impression they're also generally playful animals.
shareharry is quite playful at times but at other times can be like a lap dog, try to get a mix of being a bright happy dog but at the same time not just giving you're affection away, i have worked weeks to get the dog to warm to me so just show tht through their reactions towards the humans. because with labradors they seem to be submissive and just warm to anyone and everyone. hope this helps and i hope u get the character of two tone.

I have a dalmation/terrier and they are NOT for everyone! I have had dal's before and they can be quite a handful! They need lots of room, and LOTS of exercise. They remind me of a child with ADHD sometimes (I should know, I have one of those too, LOL) I must strongly urge anyone who might be even a little bit interested in getting one of these dogs, do your homework! If you want a dog thats going to lay on the floor for hours at a time, this is not the dog for you! Plus they are gassy! That is true. Congrats on your new baby Harry! With lots of love and LOTS of attention, he will be a great dog. Just whatever you do, do NOT give him anything milk based, or just people food in general, or you will be sorry! There is nothing worse than a dalmation SBD!

Hey old man river! Zip it, before I break your hip!~ Adam Sandler in Big Daddy
i only reccomended cos they are so cute lol, harry is quite naughty but when he goes to bite you just put some nails in a tin and rattle it and he stops. and he's not very gassy either but has a short attention span
shareI heard that Dalmatians need to be excercised a lot, else they'll become hyper and stuff. . . is that true?
Cry a river,
build a bridge,
get over it.
yep, if harry doesnt get a walk in the day he tends to run around the house at spped just before his bedtime.its hilarious though but hardly ever happens because walks are soo fun. lol

awwwwwwwww can i see a picture please, i love dalmations! wat is he or she called?
sharehe's called harry and ill get that picture asap for ya
shareNeedless to say, the fact that you bought an 8 week old puppy is wonderful and I love the fact that you obviously love him, and I bet you'll always take great care of him; you sound like a v. attentive owner.
BUT, having owned many dalmatians over the course of my life, and being knowledgable of their behavior as puppies and adults...
I don't think it's appopriate for you to be answering questions about Dals' behaviors in general and def. NOT to recommend them to everyone. So many Dals were left abandoned and dead after these movies were released because people were enamored with the image and had no idea what they were really like.
Now, maybe you've had them in the past, in which case you are more informed, but if he's 2 months old, then that is the longest you could have possibly been exposed to an owner's duties.
Be careful before you talk so lightly about owndership of these amazing dogs--because if you love Harry, you love his breed, and you won't promote people's superficiality and impulsiveness when it comes to cute, cuddly little puppies that become large, v. active and sometimes burdensome dogs.
"Now, bring me that horizon."
ok
shareaww wow he sounds luvely!
Do not fear death, fear only a life unlived…
i had a dalmation (she died last year(old age)) from a puppy (got her at 8-weeks old) and they are a handfull as another poster said they are like kids with ADD is a very good discription they need lots of room to run and need to ocupied get naughty when bored i seen other places say they are dumb not true they are just stuborn if they dont want to do something they wont end of story
however fastforward 5-6 years and they calm down a little (very little) but became the most loyal and protective dog i have ever had
